Help a Girl out! Brake Lights don't Work!
I'm having taillight issues here, when I press the brake pedal the taillights don't come on but when I put on the hazards or turn signals they work fine. They worked fine a few months ago I don't know what could have changed... I just switch out the interior, is it possible something got unplugged? All of the fuses are good, I just replaced a caliper and rotor, the pedal is also extremely stiff. Any help would be great now that I finally have the car insured and registered, I'm ready to get it out on the road! The car is a 1986 Trans AM auto 305 TPI.

check the brake light switch under the dash, could be either unplugged, faulty, or broken....they are very easy to break, especially if you dropped the column down

Had my great friend Jim help me and the pedal is no longer stiff brakes work great but the lights still don't. I checked the switch and it's fine. Installed new switch still doesn't light up. Bulbs are brand new 2057s. Fuse is brand new.

I tested the wiring at the connector, but I get no power reading from the brown wire. I do how ever get power from it when I turn my hazard lights on. Is this problem coming from the from of the car then? I checked the ground wire at the back of the car, but it was just fine.

the issue is clearly coming from the front of the car. I was testing the voltage at some of the connectors (the one connected to the steering column) the black wire show no reading when the brake pedal was depressed but there was a reading when the hazard lights were flashing. Is there a common problem that happens with the wiring or maybe a bad ground up there or a fusible link that's gone bad? I know very little to nothing about electrical work so any help would be so very helpful.

I replaced the switch (the old one looked fine though)and the fuse twice just to make sure, and still nothing. I also just replaced the Hazard flasher.
