swap meet or used 350
Hey guys. I was wondering if I should go to the spring swap meet at Englishtown and pick up a used 350 block (just the block) or buy like a used 350 from Hawks for $1200. How much do you think a good condition 350 block from the swap meet would be? I need the 350 block so I can build my 383, so it seems like getting a complete L98 from Hawks or even a 350 shortblock would give me a lot of excess parts. I'm doing a carbed 383 so the TPI from the L98 would be worthless. Would it be worth it to buy the L98 and sell what I don't need? Thanks in advance.

Selling the TPI might pay for the shipping costs.
Might as well look around for a 350 shortblock, or wait for the swapmeet.

Ok thanks. Any idea how much a decent 350 block would be at the swap meet or how much you would pay?

What about just the block? I only really need a 350 block because I'll find which internals I want and buy a stroker kit. The shortblock would come with a 350 crank that I wouldn't need.

Alot of times (at least around here) you can buy shortblocks ready to go sitting on machine shop floors cheaper than you can build something-keep that as an option.
Also the swap meets are usually full of machine shop vendors with motors on hand ready to go in all phases of construction, that is also cheaper than you could build and most time if you have the money on you, even more can be bartered off the price they have for them.
If your not in a big hurry, I'd start checking the shops right now to see what's out there and if you cant find what you want wait till the swap meet since there arer usually some great deals to be had. All the shops here will work with you also on parts, if there a short block already assembled, but say you want a dome piston/flat top etc... they will usually swap them out for no additional fee.
