Which exhaust....? Like beating a dead horse

Hey all, I know this topis seems like its beaten to death, but I have a couple of questions kinda specific to my situation.... I'm in college, so its not like I have tons of money lying around right now, but I want to improve the sound of my car. And performance improvements that come along, thats all good, but I really just want to be able to rev it up and just get that warm feeling inside... hehehe... So, my questions:

1) Should I get full cat-back or just a muffler for now?
(I have limited funds, so the muffler would seem better, because I can get one for under $100, it looks like)

2) If I go with just a muffler, which I think I will for now, what do you all think gives the best deep, gutteral sound, and that also has dual outs (like stock on my 88 TA 305 TPI)?
(I'm not trying to blow people away, just have a nice deep, rich, healthy sound)

3) I was thinking Flowmaster, but I'm not sure which series, and I am also put off by the fact that they sound metallic before getting warmed up (which I've heard about).... ideas?

Thanks in advance all, sorry if any horse lovers are offended by my topic...

Peace,
-Bill

Damn dude. I dont think anyone is gonna give you your answer. You will see Dynomax, Flowmaster, Hooker, Borla, and etc... If I were you and you have about no money like ME I would just get the 80 series Flowmaster muffler. Its KINDA cheap and sounds good. I think it might be what you want. LOL, but Im sure Im not the only answer you're gonna get.

I would go get an entire cat-back system. The Hooker set up is only like $260 from Jegs, they Dynomax is even less than that.

You sound like i did back in July. My solution was a 3'' intermediate pipe after the cat (because mine was 2.5'') and a flowmaster 80-series. I really do think Flowmaster give you the most of that warm-fuzzy-feeling when it comes to tone. Noticeable volume, not ear shattering, great resonance, gutteral/growl tone, and a deep voice. Most compliments are "sounds good" or "sounds awesome" and sometimes "sounds reallll-healthy dude." Stuff like that. Morning drives are esp. awesome since it's just you, your car, and that big'ol rumble! Maybe I'm exxagerating, but who can resist the sound of an exhaust. Flows... all the way. I think they're around $70 for the muffler alone and with installation, maybe $120?
P.S. Your choice really. But you know what I think.

I got my Hooker cat-back from Jeg's for an 85 TA HO, for 220 delivered, and that included COD fees. I would recommend it to anyone.

Ask yourself first, what is the MOST restrictive part of the exhause? Odds are it is the cat converter and the geometry of the head pipe and crossover. Save up for a good aftermarket free-flowing performance cat. While you are at the muffler shop, see if anyone with brains who can understand will do a little creative head pipe rearranging so the left and right side exhaust from the enigine blend in smoothly before entering the cat converter.

Make sure the cat-forward part flows as well as the cat-back part!

Gentlemen, I just installed Flowmaster's new
3 inch exhaust system on my 89 Formula. This system has the dual 3 inch outlets. First off, the system is quieter than I expected. It does have a deep tone, but is not as loud as the 3 inch Flowmaster system with the single 3 inch outlet, (I had the single outlet system on my Camara). As far as appearance, I have mixed feelings about the "chrome" dual outlets. I actually preferred the "sleeper-look" of the single outlet system. "Seat-of-the-pants" performance is improved. The car has better mid-range and top-end power with improved throttle response. Just my two cents worth...

remove the cat and drill 1/2" holes through the brick,or just bust it out whatevers easier, put it back on.
that rumble will give you a very warm felling and it's free.
