Thinking true duals, help me out please
Alright I have an 86 camaro with a well built 355 I need better flowing exhaust, right now I have shorties and a catback and it just aint cuttin it. I am thinking hooker long tubes 1-3/4 with truel dual exhaust, but my problem is that my car is lowered with the eibach pro kit and I dont really want to run bullet mufflers and dumps because I dont want that much police attention and it will stink too bad. now what are my options or are there none? oval piping? where could I put mufflers and just overall how could I do it?
Thanks in advance

When people talk of "true duals" on a third gen, this seems to imply you must use long tube headers, ground clearance is an issue and how the heck do you route the pipes around (over / under) the rear axle? Or is the only solution to the "rear axle in the way" dilemma consist of side exits in front of the rear wheels? And we can't forget about the mufflers. Where will they go?
For my solution to all these problems, click on the "SC Z!!" link in my sig, then on "Exhaust".

You know, I could probably make some nice $$$. Now, if I could only find someone who would be willing to weld....
GMMI makes a tail section like mine, but the difference is it attaches to a single three inch over-the-axle pipe. I question this design because it does not eliminate or replace the single three-inch intermediate pipe, either with a pair of dual 2-1/2" or a larger single pipe. With this design, the restriction becomes the intermediate pipe. So why would anyone design (or use) a free-flowing tail section attached to the "restriction"? I don't get it. And the cost of $700 for just the tail section is outrageous. Maybe I should go into business making my design....
Speaking of, here's a pic of my tail section. Obviously, it has a pair of 2-1/2" 'inlets', not a single 3-inch like GMMI's.

Maybe you should.
I know some1 with that exhaust, its the only decent sounding LS1 I've ever heard, imagine it on an L98 or a modded 1!!

Mine looks just about like that until you get to the rearend where I split one pipe over each side. You can easily use about any muffler and not lose any ground clearance as long as you put them under the gas tank (with heat shields of course). The rear is the highest part of these cars and mufflers are not visible from any direction except underneath. The only thing required to get it done is a good bender, a good lift, and some patience to try the bends a few times until you get it right. My exhaust experience isn't that great, but I built mine in about 8 hours. The biggest problem is building hangers and that really not such a bad thing either.
When I get some stuff finished up on my car late this summer this is what I'm goin' with

hey Willie I would love to do that same setup but the problem is I dont have dual cats and I want to run long tubes if it is possible do you think there is a way to do an exhaust like that with long tubes, maybe just cross the drivers side pipe across the driveshaft tunel and let it follow the other pipe over the axle like yours? Your back section is perfect for clearance and it has the mufflers and everything is it very loud? And one more thing, would it be possible to run long tubes with 2-1/2 pipes straight back and over the axle and put in mufflers like yours? how would ground clearance be and would the drivers side pipe go over the axle ok on that side?
Sorry for such a long post.
Thanks again
