sidepipes
i'm thinking of having sidepipes made. how would it work on a third gen? i'm thinking of having 3" pipe from the headers to something like tips from a 4th gen come out right behind the doors. how would it fit, and what kind of mufflers should i use that will sound good, fit and not be REAL loud? something like dynomax bullet mufflers?
will there be enough ground clearance? i havn't got a chance to look since i though of it because theres about a foot of snow around it.
if you could post pics of some sidepipes that would be great.

do a simple search for it does come up alot. i have seen pics on here before that steered me away from it, u may like them though. however, clearance is a big issue.

i agree the sidepipes like those are ugly, but i was thinking of something up underneath not visible and just be able to see the tips (something like 4th gen tip)come out right behind the door.

This picture is dark and of very poor quality because I pulled it out of a video. This is my old side exhaust setup before I switched to Mufflex 4" It is a chrome LT1 style rectangle tip tucked just beneath the subframe connector. The muffler is a flowmaster 40 series. I had about 1 in. of ground clearance at the center of the car. It was both annoying and ugly because of how low the muffler hung. It was only a temporary solution to my empty wallet, and was removed within a few months. It did sound awesome. If you go this route, I recommend an oval pipe and muffler. It could probably look great that way.

on the passenger side it looks like there is plenty of room to tuck it under but the drivers side is tight. 3" is to big but i think something like 2.5 would be ok. on the drivers side could you cut or bend some of the stuff under there to make like an inch of extra space? i would maybe cut the tips at an angle so i wouldn't have to make a 90* bend right at the end.

There isnt "plenty" of room to do any exhaust of this nature. 2.5" exhaust would definetly gain you some clearance. Yes, it would be a dandy idea to just to a 45 degree agle to help flow! I wouldnt go beating up the underbody, but I think someone with some skill could do a better job than my old setup. Good luck!

If you used Spintech mufflers, you might be able to pull it off. They are very flat, entrope mufflers. the tubes going imto them go from round to oval where it enters the muffler. Then you could just sweep the pipes off to the side. It would look really trick if you cut the ground effects and had the exhaust come out right infront of the rear wheels. I have seen some stangs with this done and it looks awesome. Just a thought though.

Our subframe is basicly level with the bottom of the ground effects. Maybe with some aftermarket or modified ground effects, that could be done. It would be a lot of work.
