i just got my new headers and y pipe today, and on the y pipe, their isnt enough of a straight section of pipe to cut and put in my cutout. how did u overcome this?
i want to have the cutout right before the cat.

ok after looking more closely at my new y pipe and the cutout valve, i can get some of the y pipe back and get the cutout valve in their, but it will still extend abtou 6" longer. will that be a problem?
heres a pic what i mean.

I think it depends on whether you have a cat. If you do, it may well be a problem. Look under the car and see if you can fit it there without much modification. If the extra length will be a problem, you may be able to move the cat a little further down the pipe with a little trick cutting and welding. Otherwise, you're probably going to have to just remove the cat all together...
removing the cat is not an option, im here in cali.
i was thinking it could be moved alittle back with tension on the bracket that holds it up, but im not positive about the air tube running into it.

AH, yes. Cali laws. Actually, where I live, we have no smog laws, and I dont even have a cat. :lala:
Looks like you're going to have to get pretty creative. Maybe what you could do is modify the actual cutout? What I mean is, cut a bit off the end of the cutout section, so that it'll join up nicely with the cat. You'll probably have to get real creative here, and you may even have to cut almost all the straight portion of the cutout off. But as long as you can make it work, it should be OK, eh?

traviz, are you sure they won't hassle you because you've tampered with the exhaust before the cat? I've always thought that if you replaced anything before the cat it had to have a carb eo # with it...

yeah I dont think you can modify anything before the cat in CA if you dont have the #. I though about your cutout idea too but it was shot down when I heard about that. Maybe just ditch the cat for know till you have to get it smogged.Originally posted by 90firebird
