I ran open pipes one day, when I was cruising at about 55 mph, it didn't really sound that loud in OD. But once you give it gas or take , WOOOOOW. I threw a rev at a *****, he must have been "I need a 10" tip I guess"
Hell yeah man, disconnecting the Y-pipe is fvckin SICK!! Friend at school has a 93 Z28, he was revvin it, it was so loud. I was in the middle lot, he was in lower, trust me its quite a distance, it sounded like someone was flooring it, but he was just reving it. So I run down, lotta kids surrounding him, he revs it again, oh man I was next to the passenger door, all sound that existed in the world evaporated and all you could hear was the exhaust. It was so loud and SCARY agressive. It even set off my other friends Z28's alarm, which was right next to him. So I was like whoa! and everyone is like he "has no exhaust", I was like what no exhaust? So I look for the pipes, I was like yeah he does (kids these days they call mufflers the "exhaust"). I asked my friend if he was had a cutout, he was like no the Y-pipe is open. He was like go look. So I looked and there was the pipe just hanging there. It was so sick, and LOUD, too bad its not legal, damn. After hearing that you may never want to go back.
EDIT: He also said it stinks, cuz the gases are being let out right underneath the car, but I was like its SICK tho.

Can you fit a 1 chamber racing Flowmaster somewhere after the cat (maybe before or after the rear axle) 'cause those things are short and then split it to two pipes and run those out the back. Something I've been wondering. Or hell, if you can find someone to pass inspection, replace the cat with the flowmaster???
