History / OriginalityGot a question about 1982-1992 Camaro or Firebird history? Have a question about original parts, options, RPO codes, when something was available, or how to document your car? Those questions, answers, and much more!
Man I love the odd colors especially the JY as well as the yellow 4th gens, and perhaps my favorite the one year gold offering in 1998. Would love to have this thing and put it back to all original, and I don’t even like convertibles!
I spoke to this guy. He says he changed his mind and is not selling now....lol. I asked him what he was thinking about selling it for...$5000, $7000, $10,000 or $15,000..... ?
We texted back & forth several times & he told me about how rare it is and that he was keeping it. Confusing because the ad was still up last I checked. Guess he's waiting for the right offer.

I was texting him a couple weeks ago, too......I was also interested in buying the car. I think he wants way more than it's actually worth. He said he had people giving him low ball $7,000 offers. I think $7 grand is plenty high for that car, considering it has 150k miles. Rare or not, the 91-92 TA ragtops just aren't bringing good money. You can dump another $10 grand in that thing so fast by the time it got paint, interior, the correct wheels, etc. We just redid a 91 Trans Am convertible....so I am very aware of what it takes to make one cherry lol.
I'm a painter at a body shop, so the labor was free, and we still have around $8 grand in this car just fixing it up....not including the $1,800 we paid for it in the first place
I agree Chaz, I’ve been lucky to get good deals on all my cars... If you look hard enough and long enough, they’re out there. I watched a guy struggling to sell it over 2 years and pounced. This was also right before I was seeing prices in the $30k+ range.
There’s an 87 IROC near me 22k miles, looks mint, dark red, 5.7 T-Top car... started at $22k over a year ago and dropped slowly to $15k now. If you find someone that’s not good at selling, they will get frustrated and unload the car at some point.. If that car goes for $14k or less I’ll be a little sad...
I think that’s a totally fair asking price... That’s a car that doesn’t pop up a lot so they’ll get close to that price.. I’d pay more for that one than almost any other IROC I’ve seen...
heres a 17k mile 5 speed vert that just sold at mecum last week for 14,500
Nickey had that one for sale for over a year at 24K after buying it from the person in the above ad. If I knew they would have let it go that cheap, I might have considered it. I sold my identical one, including miles, except it had an LG4 auto, for a lot more 18 months ago.
Hottest cam put in them 1989. Bet it moves along well too.
Yeah, but it's the 3.08 geared version. For the most part, convertibles got the lower output drivetrains. It'd still be fun to drive, just less performance than a hardtop with G92.

I was gonna say, Ray Jr will find that car for $14k... ha ha!
Theres a lot of 87 5-speed verts that pop up... I was more interested in the 88-89... I like the updated look and I didn’t really want the 20th anniversary pouch... You don’t see many 88-89 verts with a stick, and never in the color you want!
The little performance options don’t make or break it for me... My 88 puts me in the seat and gives a little chirp when it hits second gear.. That’s all I need with the top down and a car that looks like that! The 5-speed would be a huge bonus though!
The 5-speed TPI 87s I believe are mostly G92s... Still I prefer the 88-89 verts.. I think that early spoiler third brake light bothers me in some way.. I like how the 88-89 looked the same as the coupe..

I'm with you, I prefer the '88-'89. Yes most stick, '87 verts, were G92s. Very rare to find one which isn't. You can feel the difference between a 3.45 gear and 3.08, but not enough to not want the car.
I love that one and that's along the lines of what im wanting. Not a show car just a nice fun car to daily drive. Thing is down south these cars are like finding a damn unicorn
That car has potential to be a driver and a car that shows well.. I’m surprised the owner with a decently lower mile 2-owner original car with the original window sticker would rather put a 383 in it than spruce up what’s there... I guess if the car is a little rough it could go either way, but I’d lean on keeping it stock and restoring the originality..

That's why I bought my 91 Z28. Wanted a 5 speed car that still looked and ran decent for a couple of years. I gave $4300 for mine with 141k on it. I have put about 1200 miles on it in a little over a month. It has some dings here and there but it cleans up nice. The interior is in exceptional shape for the year and miles. The 305 runs strong but needs new valve seals. I plan on dropping in an aluminum 5.3/T56 that I have sitting in the garage eventually.

Looks like a super nice car. Could you get them without the side moldings??? $45 grand seems plenty steep.....
Someone on here told me once that when you don’t get A/C you also don’t get Side moldings for some reason... leave it to GM! I’d be proud to own a 1LE, but that’s a tough price tag.. It’s probably about right for that though... 1 owner is pretty cool. Hopefully they saved EVERYTHING!

ive seen 1le z28's with side mouldings and without side mouldings so who knows .. as far as price he is definitely way high .. 1le's like that seem to be bringing 25k-30k

I'm not sure if that's right. I think the door molding were included in Group 1 or Group 2 option packages.
Thoughts on this one? Its been on Ebay for awhile and they keep lowering the price. Not the best pictures in the world, but it looks pretty nice. I've never seen a luggage rack on a 3rd gen vert before.

On my watch list. Seems like a cool car. Stick verts don't grow on tree.
A super nice bright red, 88 IROC, 5 speed vert just sold at Kansas City MECUM auction on Friday. Had 50k miles and sold for $12,500. It had the gold decals, wheels, and interior.
