Need help identifying 1984 Z/28 Speedometer
Hello everybody. Thanks for letting me join and this is my first post btw! Even though my name(and first car...) is from the second gen era, I am intending to get a third gen F-body in the next 12 months when I get the money. Anyway, we have an all original, never touched or modified 1984 Z/28 with a Canadian spec L69 305 HO, He had it unloaded off the trailer(Canada bound, eh?) and bought it new. The
Speedometer is the dual needle type but this one goes to 160MPH. Has anybody seen one of these before? I know the cluster is dusty and speedo is partially blocked by the wheel, but I think it shows enough to see it. I thought the speedometer only went to 85mph?
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/hist...28+speedometer
This is all I could find on the matter and it's not even the right speedo. Any help/comments are appreciated! Again, glad to be here!
P.s. Car is BONE STOCK.

I have seen vintage aftermarket conversions of original 82-84 twin needle speedos that went to 160,but since the other gauges are also metric, might be original Z28-E "export version"instrument cluster.AFAIK,Canada bound early thirdgen z28 did not get the full"z28-E"treatment.Very cool speedo

Re: Need help identifying 1984 Z/28 Speedometer
it is very very rare i'd say-no matter if it is original export version or a vintage conversion from early in the thirdgen era.

That speedo is a KM unit NOT a US 85 MPH unit so I can assume also because
its a Canadian car.
So it showing 160 KM which is aprox. 99.41xx mph (if my math is correct).
GM Canada didn't have the 85 mph speedo reading limit like the US.

Re: Need help identifying 1984 Z/28 Speedometer
Incorrect. You can read MPH in white lettering(to match the white numbers) under the 160 and you can read km/h in yellow lettering under the yellow numbers.

Just did some searching with no luck. saw plenty of single pointer ones that went to 160mph but no dual... Starting to think that is pretty rare...

Re: Need help identifying 1984 Z/28 Speedometer
look at the water temp gauge and the oil pres gauge??? 400 psi for the oil and 135* for temp?? weird...(edit) temp gauge is in Celsius. wonder what measurement the oil press is in?(edit) it is in bar. 1 bar = 14.50377 pis. that gets it to 22.4 psi which is about right.... right?

Re: Need help identifying 1984 Z/28 Speedometer
hello; I have that same speedometer sitting in a box somewhere, i had it in my 84 z28, i found it in a salvage yard in Juarez, Mexico, back in 1996, it was inside a 82 z28 pace car that also had rear disc brakes, paint was all faded no interior was left in it, i was looking for a rear cargo cover when i tan in to this car, of course i immediately pulled it from the dash and took it with me, it was a bolt onand read correctly, u drove that car to the ground ( i was young) at the end i sold it to a salvage yard, NIT before taking the speedometer off the car; I knew back the it was something special...

Re: Need help identifying 1984 Z/28 Speedometer
I once swapped out the speedo with at 140 mph one in by buddies 84 Z28. (did in 1984) We got the Speedo from Chevy. Wish I still had the part number. You also have to replace the lens. I saw 3rd gen ranch has the listing for the whole cluster if that helps.
