T-56 Shifter questions Auto to Stick

I admit this my first time shopping for a shifter woundering and i know any shifter is a upgrade over stock
been searching googling reading comparisons

what you T56 guys are running ???ive been searching on here to see if anyone is running Hurst Billet Plus i like how you can adjust the tension on them ... other ones ive been looking at is MGW on bad is 5th&6th gear wont center correctly and also the Pro 5.0 only bad is that its noisy other option was just get b&m ripper used market and try out skip5-6.com kit for the time being and upgrade later

Re: T-56 Shifter questions Auto to Stick

Running a Pro 5 and have no issues or noises.

How do you make it better ... run a Tick Performance master, then shifts like lightning, without missing any shifts.

I was shifting my 406 at around 5600 with LS1 master drill modded and Pro 5. Odd shift missed/ground from 2nd to 3rd.

Now with the LS1 and shifting at 7000 with a Tick master and it feel like a completely different tranny. Awesome combo and I don't feel I am giving away too much time to an auto.

I love my Pro 5.0, but I think at this point "best shifter" is mostly subjective. is there any way you can go play with a few?

yea im going to try to make to a carclub meet to see what there running in there thirdgens but thats the only chance to play with diffrent ones but i dont think there running any of the 3 i mention im in san diego so camaro scene is really not that big

it is a subjective tho im not looking for the best really as every body has there opinion
was just asking about the hurst due to ajustability tension as compared to MGW, and pro5 where you cant really adjust the tension ive heard good things from all 3 no big pressing issues really with any of them

I have a hurst pro billet, but I never adjusted the tension on it. I think it feels fine the way they send it. I do have the instructions for it and can read how to do it if you want.

Pro 5.0 with custom rubber gasket and factory rubber boot cut NEATLY around the shifter. Zero noise and I loved it as a daily driver. You can tinker with the recentering stiffness, modify/swap the shifter handle, and you can leave the shifter base on if removing the trans unlike with a b&m. Just my likes...

MGW would be my next choice if I ever make a move.

You remove the two bolts that contain the centering springs and shim them. With washers or bolts. Its pretty easy. I have a couple small shims on one side only to get the left to right snap a little better.

As for the 5 - 6.. Never had any issues. Thats a slow shift. I dont make a habit of WOT super fast shifting from 5 to 6. Usually run out of road or nerve at the top of 5th. But its always been nice 1-6. Button on the shifter **** makes the reverse lock out function nice and smooth. I love it.

j this made me laugh a little, i feel the same way, at the top of 5th with my 3.23s, it'll get you 18 to life and your car impounded!

here in northeast kansas there most of the roads have too many curves to bottom 5th or 6th out.

T56 5th and 6th gears arent meant for high power anyway. Theyre not as strong as the 1-4 gears.

Ive stretched 4th and slow shifted to 5th and stayed in it for a little. But its not something that happens often. Rarely Ide say. 1-4 is all the fun I need!

As for the shifter with button...Its a Hurst white ball with a 6 speed pattern and button. The reverse lock out solenoid is simple. Give it 12 volts and it lets you go into reverse easy as pie. So its just a simple switch hook up between the shifter, solenoid and power.

Re: T-56 Shifter questions Auto to Stick

No idea how they do that. 2-3 is palm on shifter and shove it into the radio pod. Especially easy with a good shifter that snaps to center. Missing third and going to first is common because your arm wants to pull towards you some. People get excited and loose focus and pushrods and valves feel the effects.

J.

Edit...forgot I made this. Shows my shifters movement and the reverse lockout function. This is after I shimmed it I believe.

I also like the Hurst billet plus. IMO the Pro 5.0 is overated. I think they shift pretty notchey. But some people like that. The MGW has to many fail points IMO. I like the kiss method. The way it bolts together just looks destined to come loose at an inoportune moment.

That first post sums it up.

Those who didnt like the Pro5 were probably married, and hanging out with their wife too much.

Re: T-56 Shifter questions Auto to Stick

Id like to comment on the hurst but Ive never driven a car with one.I got 0 complaints about my pro 5.0 as I mentioned in the above thread.I have 0 noise since my car was already dynamated when i did my initial swap to 6spd and I have a light layer ontop of the rubber boot just to keep the tans heat out of the cabin.I dont think there would be any difference between the hurst and 5.0 to be honest I think it boils down to the installation. You wont be 100% on the frist try untill you bang a few gears and work it in..then readjust.Noise is all in your head and some have high tolerence and some dont..I dont lol.Have not heard bad things about either one..just the brand nut swingers who overly promote them.I have heard a few issues with mgw but nothing that has been really documented to worry about. To me its a very pretty and expensive shifter that is more bragging rights than funtionality so far.Id want some hard seat time to change my mind over any other decent shifter on the market.

Both are good shifters when theres a high quality product people expect it to be perfect especially when you pay $$$$$$ when its not people nitpick the small things that really doesnt matter... what i posted in OP are not stopping me or discourages me at all from either product there are small things that dont really bother me at all if none really and it seems not alot off people are running the hurst billet plus as not many people run it and was just woundering why really theres a thread on tgo of some one running a $40 ebay shifter and love it longevity wise not sure tho..
