Recently purchased a 4.8 to throw in my Camaro (for now). First stretch of the project is dropping my rear end again, and replacing the metal tank with a fourth gen tank. I already have the replacement tank, but I was curious if I could somehow use my stock carb. fuel lines and save some money, or if I would be better off replacing them with the fourth gen lines?

If you are going carb why go through the hassle of replacing the tank? The stock lines are fine to use and since you're going carb the stock pump should be fine as well.

 

Oops.. should have specified better. I'm going with the stock LS EFI. I was wondering whether I could turn the metal third gen carb lines into my pressure lines.

 

Ah I gotcha, and yes the stock hard lines should be fine. You will need a 255+ pump depending on what power you are shooting for. Even if you use the 4th gen tank, it would be a good time to swap the pump. If you go larger than 255lph I would look into a hotwire kit (larger gage wiring to support the electrical demands of the pump)

 

Awesome, I'll go ahead and adapt my lines to the new fuel tank. I'll probably stick with a 255 pump, but I might as well upgrade the wiring while its apart. It's good insurance to do so.

 

Just make sure you replace any rubber portions of the lines (at the junction of the tank sending unit and hard lines) with fuel pressure hose.

 

Gotcha! What would be best as a replacement? Would it be better to use something like steel braided line, or plastic line with quick disconnects?

 

I have a 4.8 with a 4th gen plastic tank. If you have the plastic lines and the metal junction from the 4th gen tank you can use a 4th gen filter and screw it right onto the 3rd gen hard line.This is what I did
