Shifting into overdrive during the quarter mile will actually slow you down, unless you are running a really low gear in the rear like 4.11's or higher numerically. Even with that kind of rear gear I don't believe you will need to get into 4th gear (OD). B&M does make a valve for the trans that does enable you to shift into 4th gear at WOT. That's only for highway driving.

there is also a problem with hitting 4th gear with a lot of throttle, it doesn't oil very well. it can easily fail if you have any sort of power.
just leave it in third, it will only hit a high rpom for a moment before you lift.

What makes you think you can only hit 90 mph in third gear??? Even with 4.10s you can hit that or more. With 3.23s/3.42s you can reach 120 mph easy in the 1/4. Which would be enough mph for 11s so you're fine with 3rd gear unless you're running pretty crazy fast...

I've heard the tranny won't let you hit 4th at more than 3/4 throttle or something like that as a safety thing. The B4C police cars don't have that "feature". I think someone makes a bypass for it.

Trust me...you can hit well over 90mph in drive, Ive never had to shift my car into 4th at the track. Ill second what NJ speeder says about the full throttle 4th...I definately have fragged 2 700R4s by getting in very high speed street races and using 4th at WOT - yes I am a moron.

I've hit the rev limiter in third gear once at about 130 mph. You should not have a problem keeping it in 3rd.

My trans never has a problem shifting into 4th at speed on the highway. The trans was just rebuilt to stock specs a few months ago. Do the older ('85) 700r4's not have this feature?
I think your low trap speed is caused by low h.p. not bad gearing. Get some more h.p. you will have a higher trap speed.
