Will it blow...

Hey guys ive had a N.O.S. Superpower shot set up sittin in my room for oh about 2 yrs and i havent gotten to install it becuz im worried it will blow a head gasket. the thing is that the motor has been rebuilt about 8 yrs ago by a pro. im curious too see if the motor can take just a 100 shot of nitrous and maybe 125 if i wanna push it. I have a stock replacement fuel pump (borg warner). i know i need atleast 6psi of fuel to be safe. and im runnin Accel shorty header plugs (8199 i think they are), i know ill need a colder plug also but the plugs i just put in 3 weeks are brand new.

and another thing is that the guy that sold me the kit used teflon tape on basiclly all the fittings, is that good or bad?

other then that i just need to get a different nitrous plate becuz i need a spread bore plate and i got a square bore. i know it gives me a good excuse to change to a edelbrock rpm air gap but i dont have the time right now.

but other then that stuff what sould i need to do to run it, i know i need fuel, good ignition (which is all good) and luck.

NOS has people using a kit similar to the inline extra pump used in the procharger or vortech kits. If you have the instructions for these kits you can see what I mean. I also recommend switching out the rochester injectors they have a poor "pressure lock" threshold. The last thing you want to have happen when running a dry kit is for the injectors or even one of them to stick closed due to the higher pressures. I like the ford injector in these cases.

umm my car is carbed not FI. i bought the kit used and it didnt come with instructions. the plate was already plumbed and wired (the solionds), basiclly i just need to bolt the plate on hooker up the nitrous line, fuel line and wire up the switch (and ground it also) and then mess with the timming and carb.

i know i could use an inline pump too keep the fuel pressure up but wouldnt i need a regulator to keep the pressure coming out of the pump down or would the inline just make sure the machanical pump has 6 psi at all times?

Use teflon tape on all NPT threads but NOT on AN threads.

should i just use the teflon paste on everything just to make sure, u know like a just in case kinda thing?

i hate this that i dont have any good base 1/4 mile runs on my car yet becuz i was goin to ask if even a 75hp shot will be noticable in my 1/4 mile time.

dont use teflon paste on everthing, just the NPT stuff not the AN - flaired fittings, read this https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...t=teflon+paste

so what do u think guys? would i be okay with a 100hp shot? if not ill just get jets for a 75 hp shot and see how it takes it. also is there anyway to find out what size jets i have in there? like does it have a number on the little jets or no?

Well i think after i get traction at the track i should be or will be beatin you al. but ive had the nitrous set up for about 2 yrs and mainly i couldnt use it becuz of the SQUAREBORE plate and i have a spreadbore intake (edelbrock performer) and well it just wont work if i where to bolt it on right now.

im just tryin to see what i can get out of my 305 before next yr when i should have most of my 383 built, im not decided on either a blower or a nitrous set up on it, im just goin to look for at least 500+hp.

Smart?

AN and for that matter, any kind of flared fitting is designed to seal with nothing on the threads. For that matter, the seal is made by the tapered seat at the end and not by the threads at all, and putting something on the threads to seal them will not help sealing at all either (if the seat doesn’t seal you’ll just get a leak at the swivel for the threaded sleeve anyway, even if you have the treads sealed).

Teflon tape probably shouldn’t be used at all on pipe thread fittings in an N2O system anywhere before the solenoid. You almost always get a little past the threads, and any that breaks off and travels to the solenoid could hold open the solenoid plunger and blow up your engine when you let off the gas. If I received N2O parts like that I’d take them all apart, remove all the tape clean everything well so there aren’t any traces of the tape left and then blow out the insides of all the lines, fittings… in both directions with some compressed air. If you have an NPT fitting in the system, I’d use a little bit of a good pipe dope on the threads, nothing with any solids in it (some ‘teflon pipe thread sealants’ have little strings of Teflon in them that could cause the same issue so they’d be pretty low on my list of stuff to use).

90% chance you won’t have any problems with the tape, but why take the risk?

at the very lest, all of it before the solinoid, I'd get rid of all of it.
