Ive got a 90 Camaro 350 TPI and im planing on using twin electric turbos/superchargers, they put out around 6 psi each. Id put them where the original airbox was and sit the filters down further in that area. Then using a custom pipe run them in together to the throttle body, they will run on a switch and will be be on demand.

anyone ever do anything like this? if so or if not either way any thoughts/input would be greatly appreciated.

(also the engine is being rebuilt over winter)

Every single electric "turbo" or "supercharger" I've seen has been a pile of crap with good marketing.

 

they are useless ..oh wait i heard thay make great leaf blowers

 

well if its blowing leaves, its blowing air, or forcing it otherwise forced induction...

so it wouldnt be compleatly usless yes?

 

some of those i've seen are nothing more than small
blowers of the size and type used for ventilating inboard
boat engines or add-on window defoggers LOL
A while back borg warner was experimenting with aREAL
electric supercharger,but gave up on the experiment
-it takes some HP to make usable boost-a 1/10 hp
motor won't do it!

 

i dont unerstand how thy can be selling so many of them, i know people that have put them on their cars and noticed personally better performance ie. keeping up better with a better car.

 

Well, I know people that have had the fins break off of the little fans and fly into the throttle body. How's that for wicked performance? The reason they sell so many of these "too good to be true" not-even-good-enough-to-be-Chinese-knock-offs-so-they-are-knock-off-Chinese-knock-offs is that they ARE too good to be true. Dumb people believe everything they hear and even people that would normally know better, just get carried away planning out the ducting of their new found power adders.

If they were really so great and made all of this free/cheap hp, they'd be in every engine bay in the world. Right?

Oh, and the other day I had a load of text books in my car on the way home from class and I totally smoked this 4th gen. Guess the moral of the story is that text books in the trunk make your car faster (yes I am aware that it would actually increase traction, bad example)

....... now that my rant is over, I HAVE seen a set of videos of a bunch of guys putting some impressive gains on a dyno by just piling an actual leaf blower into the air intake. I'd have a hard time admitting that my power adder was a Craftsman though.

Just search on google..... its a gimmick.
The ONLY electric turbo/superchargers that work, need a lot more juice then just 1 regular car battery can put out. Use google, itll tell you all

 

The only true electric supercharger I've seen is the Thomas Knight stuff. They are pretty clear about the limited run time, extra batteries and cfm limitations. They've been out for a number of years and there is limited information on the web. When you can't find a video about something on youtube, you know you're on a lonely path!

Anyway, Knight uses three electric motors driving a roots style supercharger. It will set you back about $1500 for the smaller unit (you'll need two). With that in mind, I think I'll stick with my $2500 in the entire car ebay turbo setup LOL

 

Not that I'm planning this, but I'm curious about something.

Isn't a belt driven unit's output controlled by the rpm's of the engine? ie, at "idle" it wouldn't be pounding the intake with the same forced air as at "wot"?

If that's the case, how would the electric fans do anything for you? unless you're driving with one hand and controlling a potentiometer with the other. lol.

Also... why not just keep the a/c components on your car... redirect the cold vent air via one single tube, straight into the induction... that way it's forced AND cold... IMAGINE THE POWER!!! Wait... forget you heard any of this... I think I need to head down to the patent office. lol.
