Lowering your third gen?

Whats the best way to do it and keep performance. I got a couple of quotes and they said it was an eibach(spelling) kit that would lower it 1.6in. Has anyone used this kit and would it impare performance?

thanks

IMO, Lowering is for performance. Sure it looks good, but I lowered my 82 for better handling. The stiffer springs and lower center of gravity are great for corners--but it will ride stiffer. A set of 4 drop springs and a performance alignment(not the stock specs) will work just fine. If wheel hop becomes a problem after the drop, a set of LCA relocation brackets will fix it.

Custom 3 inch single into 2 2.5 pipes. 1 1/2 drop springs, 1 5/16 solid front sway bar, 1 inch rear bar, custom subframe connectors, custom LCA relocation brackets. Kobel ground FX, currant red metallic paint. Lots of other stuff...

I have the Eibach Springs on mine.I ended up cutting mine even shorter, though.
Ride quality will be a little more firm, but it will handle so much better, you'll never
regret it.Eibachs are probably the most popular springs among third gen owners, and I think you'll be pleased with the way it looks
and handles after installing them.
As far as scraping, well in my opinion,it's a small price to pay for the improvements.
You'll learn to look a little farther ahead for obstructions in the road, and take speed bumps slowly, at an angle if necissary.

I've heard that the front tires will wear very quickly after you lower your car. Has anyone that lowered their car actually experienced this? (not a lot of third gens around here to check out/compare) Do you have to get a camber kit to fix this problem, if it exists. Again, I'm going off of what I've heard and read on company websites.

I haven't heard that before, However I do know that the outer side of my tires wear really bad(front compared to back) and I haven't had any upgrades to my suspen..

Maybe a kit will help that!?

the outsides of mine wear faster then the insides and mine is lowered, but i think a front end alinment will fix that problem.

Just need a 'good' alignment to help stop the uneven tire wear. The stock setting suck--even you are still are at stock height.
Camber -.5 (give or take a little so both sides are equal)
Caster +4.5 left +5 right
Toe +1/16 inch
Scraping is just part of sitting low...

If your car's lowered as much as mine, it'll require caster/camber adjusters of some kind.Otherwise plan on seeing cord on the inside of your front tires long before the outside wears.Mine had almost 5 degrees of negative camber before I got the adjusters, now I'm at a much more reasonable 1 degree negative,5 degrees positive caster and 1/16" Toe.Got the adjusters from Ground Control Racing.

Stock third gens do best with 0 camber, I know it sounds weird but you'll experience better highway tracking and steering response.

the best bet is Nascar 5.5" springs with adjusters .. check out Ground control once again .. they have a drop in kit .. and a weld in version .. you can start with a 3" drop and adjust all the way back to stock in in just minutes !!! great for SOLO stuff .. stock height all the way to the track ..then slammer the ***** for the race
