TBI Air Cleaner Conversion
I want to change out my air cleaner and I was wondering which way would be the best to go. Its on a 91' RS v8, I live in west texas and there is a lot of dust, I would like to buy one from K&N but I'm not sure if it would be a good idea for street use. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

any open element will do very nicely. just look around for a flat base 14x3. a k&n is nice to have, but not entirely necessary. don't worry about the dust thing, the open element is made fo teh saem stuff your stock air filter is, so it will keep teh dust out just the same.

Flipflop, look up the thread where I show how to make a dual snorkle air cleaner for my 91 RS V8. It clears the factory air with no problem and has cold ram air to boot. Almost looks stock too!
It involves a little fabricating, but I know it boosts the power and uses all GM parts. I suspect it also out-performs an open element when you are at speeds above 45-50 mph (pressurized cooler air vs hot non-pressurized air from inside the engine compartment). I noticed a big boost when passing cars on the expressway (70 to 90 mph). I went around and collected the parts again and will put a completed system up on eBay shortly.
Chevytown, nice six!! I used Clifford headers on my slant six but an Offy manifold with a 390. For an aircleaner I implanted a huge one from an old T-Bird with a 429. Fast Valiant. A friend of mine gave me a Clifford intake for the Chevy six a long time ago but this is the first Chevy I've had. Clifford makes top quality stuff.

I just got one last week.
I noticed you took out the overflow tank. Do you just not have one now? How much coolant does your car spit out?
Thanks,

Give the dimented one a cigar. The overflow bottle is a smaller one from an '86 and it is on the other side. If you look close you can see the overflow hose behind the alternater.

Sorry..... I didn't notice (because I didn't think anyone would) that you removed the washer fluid tank.
Why would you do that?
Seriously, did you remove the Evap canister, or did it fit with that still there?

Air cleaner system
I finally collected all the parts again :hail: and fabricated a duplicate (bit nicer, of course) of the system I have been running.

The stock snorkle on a 305 tbi is much too small for even a 4 cylinder. The cheapest way togo is to geta 14x3 open filter That is what i did and it had a noticable effect on gas milage and performance also when you put the new setup on take out the existing choke collar in your throttle body as its unessesary

I got it for xmas last year. Im pretty sure they run about 70$ which was for a 14x3 element and a chrome lid and bottom.
You mid as well just go ahead and get the k&n because its reusable...and in 50k miles you can go buy a 9$ recharge kit and it will be like new again.
Hey i was just kidding about the 60hp thing...i say it does add about 10hp over stock tho. Nice SOTP difference.
