Re: running way rich

You need tuning. That setup is completely different than what you originally had. See the stickies and search DIY-Prom board for more info.

Really the problem is that the calibration in the ECM doesnt match what the motor requires, which is why it has rich and lean spots.

Re: running way rich

TBI or TPI?

I thought the 305 valves are to small for a mild 383ci and that the stock 305 heads flow really bad. https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/tbi/...-headflow.html

Re: running way rich

It would be easiest on the feed line right next to the alternator.

Sometimes it is good to monitor FP under load too.
With this one you can fix the gauge under the windshield wiper for some accurate testing http://www.actron.com/product_detail.php?pid=16175

Some good information https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/tbi/...sure-test.html

Re: running way rich

The VE tables are probably the cause, also 14 psi on the stock tune may be on the rich side, if you have the tuning equipment or the EBL flash upgrade this can be adjusted.

Re: running way rich

Measure the engine vacuum at different ports, it should be 17.5" or higher. If its less it'll cause the map sensor to richen it up.

Re: running way rich

Consider a datalog of sensor readings. Need a ALDL cable and winALDL(free program) and a laptop. A datalog will tell you what needs to be changed.
Fuel pump needs to provide adequate fuel at WOT. Stock FP?
Your chip may not be quite right for your app.
