could be a bad starter, they have been known to have bad ones right out of the box, but more likely, a loose connection
also, do you have any oil leaks?, if so starters do not like being coated/soaked in oil, it drastically decreases their life expectancy
also a lot of short trip driving, puts more wear and tear on them, you know what i mean, start car, drive for 5 min, stop, start car........and so on

I have the same problem. I just talked to a mechanic yesterday and he said if I take the sleeve of of the starter celeniod it will have two contact points. One will stay with the sleeve when you pull the sleeve off and the other on the celenoid. He said look at the contact point on the celeniod and it will probably be burnt. He said you can take it off and turn it around for better contact.
I have not tried this with mine yet, but I plan to. This guy has been quite knowledgable in the past. So I will give it a try.

 I JUST ALSO HAD A THOUGHT, IM PRETTY SURE THERES AT LEAST ONE RELAY ON THE STARTER, ONE FOR OVERTEMP, WONT TURN OVER IF OVERHEATED, BUT MY PROBLEM EXISTS AT ANY TEMP, COLD IN MORNING , AFTER A SHORT DRIVE ECT.
BUT IT WOULDNT HURT TO CRAWL UNDER THE THING N CHECK THE WIRES TO THE STARTER FOR CLEANLINESS N SECURITY.
THANKS......NE MORE INPUT WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.
