high Oil Pressure

Well The car has been sitting all winter and it doesn't look like I am gonna put her on the road this year because funds are low, gas prices are high, and i might as well get some cosmetic work done. I Did all the tune up work your supposed to do and when i started her up she ran like a dream.. until i glanced at the oil pressure guage, It was pegged. I varied the RPM's and even drove it around the neighborhood with no plates to see if i could get it to drop below 60 with no luck. It did vary somewhat but never below 60. What could be wrong?? I don't have the slightest idea, but maybe I'm just freakin out. Thanks for the help guys...

It could be a number of things, but the first thing I'd check would be the sending unit, it's located on the "china wall" on the back of the block. I'd also take one of the oil plugs out of the front of the block and put a mechanical oil gauge there, you can see your exact pressure, and it dosen't dampen any oil fluction like the eletric gauge dose, so you can see how good your bearings and the rest of the oil system is. (the more "jumping" it dose the more worn the engine is)

over 60psi may not be a problem. if you're worried about it you can check with a mechanical gauge and see what you really have. did you let the engine get up to operating temp? that may make the oil pressure drop.

Like ede said, first verify the problem by using a mechanical gauge. It only takes two things to create pressure, FLOW and RESTRICTION, so if the pressure is in fact HIGH, you would want to check the restrictions in the lube system..

Try putting a quart to tranny fluid in next time you change the oil. That will clean all the sludge and crap out of the oil passages and such.

ive done it before. Didnt use a full quart, though. Seems to have done something...that may just be my mind playing silly games, though.
