I looking at getting a '87 l98 w/ tpi but i want to go carb for my swap. can i just pull off the tpi unit slap a new intake manifold and a carb on or am i missing a lot of thing

im looking at getting rid of the ecm completely cant i just run a non computer controlled carb or does the ecm control other functions i still need i also know im gonna need a new dist

The ECM controls the ignition timing and the torque converter clutch of an automatic transmission with such a feature.
It also controls some emissions equipment like A.I.R. and EGR, but I'm assuming since you're eliminating the ECM and going carb, that isn't something you're concerned with.

im not concerned with emmisions really ill find a way around those but i do want it to run properly. so can i just get a msd ignition and then isnt there a $20 part for the convertor?

The only "kit" I have seen lately was in the $160 range.
For a TH700, you can modify the 4th gear pressure switch so it locks the TC whenever you're in OD. That may be about a $20 mod.

ok the trans will be a 700r4 and i swear a saw someone say summit sells something cheap to do that ill have to look into it

Axle/Gears: Peg Leg w/ 3.73's
Youll need a non cc distributor, carb, manifold, new throttle linkage, a mallory bypass style fuel pressure regulator, and some way of locking the converter. There is a tech article in the tech section of thirdgen.org there details everything. Good Luck.
