Huge loss in power on 350 TPI ???
Huge loss in power on 350 TPI ???
I have a friend who has an 89 Iroc he decided to buy the HSR and an even larger throttle body. Since installing it his car has run a tad quicker but not much for the money. In addition his car began to overheat within ten minutes of operation. He fixed the overheating problem by basically replacing everything in the cooling part of the engine but now the car has less power then it did stock can this all be because of him needing a tune? What else should he purchase for the car to bolt on if he needs a tune and where can he get a mail order tune if there is one? All help would be appreciated he is at his breaking point and is going to sell it for nothing after all that he has done to it. Thanks

HSR makes it's power when the L98 cam finishes. So by using a HSR you basically have a worthless cam. Also bigger is not better especially when you are using a massive TB. However HSR recommends a 58mm TB but this can significantly hurt a stock motor.
Get a cam that operates in the HSR range, get a complete exhaust system. Then you will reap the benefits of HSR

Mail order eproms are worthless. If you are not prepared to learn how to tune it yourself (and it isn't that hard), go to a Regional Gathering and find someone who has all the equipment. You want "hands-on" tuning.
But you don't mention all your mods, including what fuel pressure you are running. Please specify EVERYTHING you have done and the fuel pressure.

He has just the HSR & 58mm T/B sucking through the stock air lid with K&N filters and nothing else not even exhaust. Not because he is a total moron but he is just waiting to get opinions on what to go with next. When he first got the car he jumped at the first pricy mod he saw expecting huge gains without talking to more knowledgeable people.
