Just bought some Holley Cast Aluminum valve covers for my carb'd 350. Just wondering how tight I should bolt em down. I have the wingnut style valve cover bolts btw.

 

They dont need much. "Snug" or no more than 16 ft/lbs i beleive.

 

just untill they feel tight then after a week make sure there all still tight, With alloy covers its not realy a problem because they don't bow like the tin ones.

what kinda gaskets are you using? Some people swear by cork or rubber. I use teflon gaskets, little pricy, but are rigid and don't loose form when handling them. Just silicone gasket to the cover and let the gasket do its job on the head.

 

yeah, their cork. And thats the same thing I did, RTV sealer to cover, and then put on head.

 

If you use cork, 'glue' them to the valve cover with silicone, and then just let them but up against the head w/o any sealant. That way they can be reused when you take the valve cover off again. I did this with my tin set and my aluminum set.
