I am getting a strong gas smell coming from the driver rear fender area, near the filler. It only happens when I have a 1/2 to full tank. The cap is good, there are no holes in the filler neck, and nothing spilling during filling or any other time. I am thinking maybe that the cheap white plastic valve under there may be faulty. If not, what else could it be? It may be causing the low milege also.
Thanks, Rich

is it hard to put gas in?? or can you just set the gas pump on full bore and let her fly?
Goes in no problem, as normal.
No body else has experianced this?

Had the same problem. Turned out to be a cracked gas tank. Where the filler tube attached to the tank. Never leaked, couldn't even see wetness on the tank, but when it was parked in the garage overnight, the smell was terrible. Glad my garage didn't explode.

It might be leaking out from the top at the sealing ring did you do a fuel pump recently.

No, to my knowledge the pump is the origninal. I will have some time tomorrow to get a closer look at everything.Originally Posted by 92RSMoneypit

Filler neck leaking, cracked around factory solder joint. Had the same issue, smelled bad when tank was near full.

No dripping, just a very bad gas smell and somewhat poor mileage. Never noticed drops on the floor.

What valve are you referring to? Is does it mount in-line near the gas tank on one of the vent hoses? I'm asking cuz i just got everything back together in my car and I don't have a valve hooked up to either of my vent lines. I think forgot about it or lost it! Please confirm..Originally Posted by game1939
