Re: no FP fuse?

as long as the ignition is off there should be no juice to the fuel pump. i think removing the fuse is a precautionary measure. i believe the fuse is an inline in its own fuse holder next to or right around the battery. the wire its on should be orange.

Re: no FP fuse?

Just replace the fuel filter.

I've done it many times with no preliminary precautions other than making sure the car is safely supported on jack stands, and keep fuel out of your eyes. lol

Re: no FP fuse?

Plug it with your finger and install it quickly. I have done it many times and fuel spilling is unavoidable. The fuel is coming out from suction/gravity, not because the fuel pump is pumping it out.

Just be quick about it and you'll be fine.

There should be a fuse by the battery in its own plastic casing screwed to the inner frame rail. It is the ECM fuse, and unplugging it before replacing a fuel filter will make zero difference in the fuel spillage.

Re: no FP fuse?

If this is a TPI car - there is a shraeder valve on the fuel rail - cover it with a rag, and depress the inner button (like a tire stem) with a screwdriver - this relieves the pressure and thus none will leak out when replacing fuel filter.

Re: no FP fuse?

the reason he wanted to find a fuse is so he could pull the fuse, start the car and let it "run out of gas" and then replace the fuel filter. the guy saying "the fuel pump is off When the key is"...well no ****...that's not the problem. but yes, using the schraeder valve will work too, it'll just take a while...

oh, And BTW, you can pull the fuel pump relay...that will effectively kill the fuel pump.
The fuel pump relay is located on the
firewall ,if your looking at it from the
front of the car it will be the furthest
relay to the right it will have five wires
going into the connector.

Using the schrader valve will relive the pressure so when he cracks the line open he doesnt get a face full of gas. It does nothing to stop the siphoning effect

Just plug it with your finger and be quick. With stock hardlines, that was my least favorite of all the annual maintenance
