cam retainer issue
i came to a stump while doing my build earlier today. i was tightning my reatainer bolts tighten it a lil to much and it broke (got the kit to get it out but back to topic) so i went to napa and found a hex bolt though it on and height clearence was good. so i turned the cam ith the gear and heard a scraping noise on my duralast timing chain from autozone prt number 78150.
so i took it off and notice the corner hitting the timing chain so with this being said i took one of the olds retainer bolts and notice the same thing with this one!
but it being round is it susspose it just tuns on it but then i realized its a bolt with threads.
so i took out the caliper and measure the back side of the cam gear that the ratainer hits and the duralast one is slightly bigger then the stock.
so is this normal i kno i should not replace my cam retainer possibly need to replace the timing chain set
any help would be nice
and seeing how the bolt i need fromm summit is seven bucks shipped probably a junkyard trip for this bolt
any help would be awesome
blocking my build

Re: cam retainer issue
What extent is the rebuild-
Complete with parts from a kit or just freshening with new rings & bearings?
Can you post pics of the problems?

Re: cam retainer issue
Kinda hard to follow you, But if the cam gear is rubbing on the correct size bolt head even though the autozone 78150 is suppose to be right and converts to a cloyes 9-1145 .

Re: cam retainer issue
I would use the right bolts gm 14093637 and put some loctite 242 on the threads. Than check your car gear clearance it it rubs than that timing set will not work. don't use a tapered head bolt here there is no surface area for it to tighten against the plate. A bolt like that would be used in something that is counter sunk. Actually your picture is blurry so I cant tell if this is the right gm bolt !!
