well i raced someone today and barely won. it was a 96 pontiac sunfire gt with a manual tranny. i think it had like 50k miles on it. i own a 89 camaro rs with an open air element and an automatic tranny with about 60k miles. anyways we both took off at the same time and until we hit about 70 when we cut off i was only like 1/4 a car length in front of him. is this normal??? aren't the newer sunfire gts kinda slow? or do i need a tune up or some more mods? any serious help would be appreciated

Do you have a 2.8L v6 ?
135hp ??? torque (you must have more)
My mother has a 2.4L 2001 Z24 150 HP 155 torque. things peppy. I raced a 2001 Z24 a few months ago it was on the highway. around 65 he was almost next to my door handle but when i nailed it he had nothing more to give. Maybe you should think about getting a cat-back next

I race a close race with sunfires, caveliers and neons in my 17 second durango...
the sunfires are a bit lighter than fbodies, so if you have a 2.8 then i would say your doing pretty good, if you have a 305, you might need a tuneup, but if have a stock LG4 of LB9 then you should still be able to pull a car or 2..

Are you sure you have a Camaro?
If I could barely keep up with a Sunturd I sure as hell wouldn't tell anybody
You need serious help.

power to weight ratio is what makes a car quick, not total power. a sunfire with 155hp at the wheels only weighs about 2600lbs, a camaro with a v8 having 165hp weighs 3300lbs at least prolly closer to 3500.
sunfire gt= 16.8 lbs per HP
camaro = 20lbs per HP
the only advantage the f-body in this race acually had was that a rear drive car will out hook a front drive car.

Ok I understand now. Yea hte Lo3 isnt really much of a power motor. Its got some crazy torque on the low end. But after that it dont pull that much. I usually only see stock or slightly modified RS's in the low 16's or high 15's. And GTS sunfires run low 16's high 15's. So that explains it. It counts how bad your parts are. If their no good then a tune up will help big time. BUt if they arnt that bad then only allittle.

Hey don't feel bad. I went to the track last night with some buddies of mine and lost a lot of confidence in this car. Granted i have NO experience running at a track, this was my first time ever, and didnt' get the best launchs and RTs, but I'll put it this way. The Z24 cavalier and Neon R/T were running 16.2-16.6 roughly on their best runs. I only got 3 passes in before the track closed for the night, and best i did was a 16.8. (other two runs were 17.1 and 17.14) Keep in mind though, their cars are almost new. Mine has 121,000 miles, a very worn out tranny, and crappy *** tires. I bet the L03 coulda pulled a 16.5 if id've got more practice in. We'll see what happens next time. The thing hurting most is gears, i'm just shifting into 3rd at the 1000 foot mark (automatically not manually)
