How Fast?

Well I was thinking our project was going to be pretty fast but after looking at a couple of signatures and what not we're going to be middle of the pack. If we get together this summer for a drag day how fast do you gotta be to win???

Whats your guess and who do you have to beat?

Ric

Not sure, I've been so out of the loop on this site.

What do you think you and Johny's project is gonna run, ballpark?

I G-tech'd mine last year, however good that is, and i was impressed with the car last summer, even though it wouldn't hold compression, and wouldn't produce oil pressure. I guess it should be even stronger now after the rebuild, of the rebuild.

If Paul gets an alky kit for the Buick, then it should be pretty quick.

but NA wise, i think it'll be between you and me. And Daz if he gets that BBC going.

I'd put my money on Daz.... Carm for sure if he's in this race.

For non f-bodies... Paul's Turbo Buick should throw down some awesome numbers if he's got slicks.

Same guy... now he has a BBC with a huge cam.. I traded him a fuel pump for some tail lights this summer and got to hear it run. Sounds pretty mean. He's also doing a C5 front brake conversion and showed me how to make the custom bracket needed to mount C5 corvette calipers.

Dave with that motor running good & some traction (providing that diff holds up) you're good for 12's N/A

I need the specs off that cam of yours, do you have the cam card lying around? There may be a better option for you.....

Aside from Stoked-Z, I think I will give most a run for the money with my nitrous. Without I should be 12.70's - 12.90's, with it I would like to see 11's for sure!

It's not that radical considering I had emissions in mind at the time.
It's the Comp XE274 cam.

I'd like to run something with more lift, but would have to check the valve clearance at scotty's first.

Shoot me a PM, i was thinking of going with a bigger cam while the motors apart.

totally forgot you yanked that old cam out......

the XE274 is perfect for your setup....with traction & a good tuned motor & providing you can bang the gears, i wouldnt be surprised to see mid 12's.

Dave I'm running the xe284... maybe we can trade back and forth for some fun this summer

I have no idea what I'll be running this summer. Like you Dave my engine is in the shop right now being rebuilt after a rebuild haha. I'm also swapping a 6spd into the car and posi/gears(at least 3.73's). I should be trapping in the high teens tho is all I'm going to guess.

I probably wont race it hard car next year..I want to drive it for a year first before I break something.

Whats your new engine combo? What heads are you running. Thats a pretty big cam for a manual tranny, though 3.73 will help it. It's feels different shifting with a healthy cam, you have to shift quick cause the revs climb fast.

406cu in., 10:5.1, AFR195's, rpm air gap, 1 5/8" shorties w/ either 3.73's or 4.10's out back. Havn't decided on that much yet. I'm also running an aluminum flywheel and lightened pressure plate. Not exactly a drag racing setup obviously I want less cam for this car but I also want to see how what shes capable of with a flat tappet. We'll see what happens in June when I'm back up for etesting.

Best of luck e-testing that with a xe284, you may be doing a weekend cam swap for etesting purposes only.
Even CATS may not be able to mask the duration of that cam.

I'm sure I will be doing a swap as will JohnnyIROC :P as he's using the same cam.

LS1 swap in progress... Longtubes... LS6 intake... TR224/112 cam... HP tuners coming... M6 w spec 3 iron clutch... 8.8 diff 3.73's but might step up to 4.10's...

Most guys on the fourth gen boards running similar combos with a good tune on an m6 put down at least 370 rwhp.

As for what it'll run??? All I can say is the fug'n thing better go good for all this work and $$$ hahaha. Not set up for dragging at all mind you but I'll slap on some slicks take er out and dump the clutch at 6k and see what happens

or maybe sumthin will go blam and...

Well I've given the engine builder to go ahead and do whatever he thinks needs to be done, so close to a grand later, this bottom end better be good, or I'm holding Carm personally responsible. JK

As long as I have a good bottom end, the rest should be gravy.

I gave him complete trust and respect the minute he asked me if I want to be there when he puts it back together.
That lets me know he's got nothing to hide, or be half assed shady about, as I've seen from the others in the past.

He's good people.

nice to see some people back on here. i would certainly be up for a drag day, i just need to install my upgraded brakes.

then i my goal will not to get last. you guys are all running much bigger or much better combos than mine.

Thanx guy's, but if ya just mean F-Body's and not 3rd gen specific then theres no way I can come close to touching Louich, his 75 Formula has a 615ci Merlin with a 8:71 blower and run's pump gas, and his daily driver 81 Z28 has a 355ci forged set-up going in that he plans to add some hair dryer's too

But 3rd gen wise I am not sure who can beat me around here as I dont even know how fast I will be, will have to get some dyno numbers and some track times and see soon.

Daz sounds scary though

things are good. moved into the family farm house with my cousin. lots to keep us busy there. I have been busy working 6-7 days a week since graduating my 4-year honours degree.

starting this week i am working 2 days a week so that i can look for a job with my degree. hopefully that will result in more money for my car, so that it doesnt suck and go so slow. my car really needs a decent intake and 650 DP (jay has one of those for me)

other than that...just enjoying life when i have the free time...
