Need ideas on what to check to fix backfiring.

I took my car to emissions to get it checked out. It passed but on the way home it started backfiring. I checked the wires/cap/rotor. All seem fine. It runs fine if I disconnect the brown ground wire on the passenger side. I replaced the ignition module and it didn't help. What else should I check? It has 125 ok it. I was thinking maybe there's a bad ground or something.

No, I mostly meant Base timing.

did they Just check it, or did they work on it too ?

If they just tested it, its sorta hard to imagine them ****ing something up other than maybe crossing a plug wire or causing one to short.

They changed the battery but that's all. It seemed like it took the dude forever to change the battery though, I don't think he knew what the hell he was doing.

Found the real problem, the distributor shaft was separated from the reluctor, replaced distributor and it runs great.
