TPI stainless allen bolts?

While I've got my intake apart, I'm considering replacing the plenum and TB bolts with stainless allen hardware. I'm polishing up the runners and plenum, so I think it would match nicely. Anyone got pics of a setup like this?

Re: TPI stainless allen bolts?

I have the complete kit and will never go back. Appearance is 1000 times better. No real good pics, and I've since sandblasted and powdercoated my TPI, but it still looks great. With a polished TPI, they won't stand out as much though. Mine really contrasts, and that's what makes it IMHO.

Regardless, they'll look great, no matter WHAT you do

Re: TPI stainless allen bolts?

That looks awesome, it should have come that way factory. You have a good point about the contrast, I may go with black oxidized bolts instead. I wish my lower intake was that clean, I may have to pull it and clean it up while I'm at it. Did you find a bolt kit somewhere? I had planned to go to lowes and find all of the bolts I need, but if someone sells a kit that might be easier.

Re: TPI stainless allen bolts?

I bought a set of these off ebay quite awhile back and the fitment sucked. Some bolts had to be shimmed with washers cause they were a little long. but for the most part all the others fit nice. I recently found a place in riverside california that specializes in stainless allen head bolts when I installed some slp runners and needed longer ones.

Re: TPI stainless allen bolts?

I bought a kit. ....everything worked and fit just fine, and was clearly labeled as to which bolts were for what parts. Obviously it had the TPI intake bolts, but it also had the 6 TB cover bolts, plenum acc. bracket bolts, TPS bolts, Dizzy cover bolts, waterneck bolts, and even a dizzy hold down bolt.

Can't remember where exactly, it's been a few years, but I'm sure a TPI bolt kit search on google would work.

Think I paid about $30

The black oxide bolts will corrode. I would stick with a high-grade stainless.

I wonder about galvanic action between the stainless and the aluminum, though. This might not even be an issue.

Yes, black oxide will corrode. Ask me how I know.

The stainless bolts in the TPI itself do want to galvanize, but after 3 years, I've had no problems. The longest the TPI was together without removing the bolts was about a year, and I could feel they were a little sticky when breaking them loose. Since then, I go and pop the bolts free, and then immediately retighten them about every 6 months.

All the little accessories are no problems....

.....except the waterneck. Add a little coolant to the mix and forget it. It got all kinds of ugly. I had to muscle the bolts out and retap the manifold. Since then, I've used just plain good ole home depot grade 5 bolts.

Re: TPI stainless allen bolts?

Have you tried any aluminum anti-seize on the bolts? Like for spark plugs.

Exactly. I would use anti-seize just incase. Most of the time you can get away with it. However if that one time you don't it can be a major pain.
