welcome aboard, the only difference between the two is the bellhousing. they are different between the V-6 and V-8, it may be easier to find a T-5 setup and then buy the needed bellhousing seperatly.
Thanks for the welcome.... I have a T5 bellhousing for the V-8.... but I am guilty of not keeping it full of fluid and the insides are toast... I need just the tranny part... I am having such a hard time finding one for a V8 and have noticed more posts for V6 T5's... so I guess what Im asking is... Can i buy one of those and it fit right in and run? or is there going to be some gear changing and the like going on?
Thanks for not laughing

There's a bunch of junkyards in Memphis that should be able to get you one.... Check Payne's on North Hollywood, Mr. Complete on Chelsea, the one on the north side of Chelsea between McLean and Watkins ( I can't remember the name of it, I haven't lived there for too long now).

So their is no difference in the v-6 or v-8 t5 besides the bellhousing? I thought there was a difference with the input shaft? Anyone got an answer to this? I'm shopping for a t5 setup right now and need this info.

I believe you need to use a V6 clutch and pressure plate.
My friend is running that setup in his 86 Trans Am right now since it is so hard to find a V8 T5.

The input shaft is different. The 6-cyl one is 14-spline and some small diameter, the V8 is 26-spline 1-1/8" diameter. I don't know too much about the 6-cyl cars as far as details since I am entirely disinterested in them. I've never even touched one of those transmissions except by mistake once when a junkyard gave me one instead of a V8 core, and once helping one of my little brothers with his S truck.

I has lower gear ratios. and like sated above the splines are differant. you could get just the disc from a parts dept. but, you may need to go through a bunch till you find one with the right splines and the right diameter disc. someone thought a 82 f-body one "might work"

The splines are different as well as the gear ratios. One I got from a junkyard had a huge counterweight thingy on the tailshaft. Be patient and keep searching till you find one for a V8
