How many bolt is my rear axle

It's the stock 2.77 posi rear from an 86 trans am. No, it hasn't been replaced. No, taking the cover off isn't possible (well, not easy since I'm across the state). I'm looking at new gears so I'm trying to find what specs I'd need to know before ordering.

I'm guessing its 9 bolt then, but like I said, its across the state so just crawling under is a 4 hour process.

is there any member of your family that could look? you don't even have to jack up the car, an average person can slide under there and look

very simple question here.....is there a rubber filler plug on the cover...? if so it's a 9 bolt. if there is no rubber plug it's a 10 bolt.

well if im correct if its a 2.77 its a 9 bolt i think only the 9 bolt came with the 2.77 10 bolts had the 2.73. My 89 was 2.77 9bolt my buddies 89 was 2.73 10bolt and everyone else with 9or10 had those ratios. My 85 T/A had the 3.27 9 bolt which i swapped to my 89.

Unless you are positive of what you have, I myself would not be ordering parts. More so if its a 2series 9-bolt, which parts may not exist. My opinion.

Well I trust my buddy's ability to count to 9 so I don't see the problem. It does have a rubber filler plug so it's definitely a 9 bolt.
