? - also, you sure it wasn't that the driveshaft took out the tail-shaft/housing?

Zipping the mounting bolts to tight with an impact gun can cause this. Easy to swap out and inexpensive to buy used.

ok, that's not your tail shaft/housing that broke. that's the bellhousing!

that normally happends cause you didn't have the bellhousing bolts torqued correctly.

I have seen that before. It looks like your problem may be behind the driveshaft. Check pinion angle first.

I would guess that you'll find Bad Things inside that transmission if you take it apart.

I just inherited one that looked just like that. Had a pump bolt come loose and come in contact with the tc at about 4500rpm on the bottle....the ribs in the TC grabbed the bolt and...well, it looks just like yours. Suprisingly, nothing internal was hurt.
- As for your's, either a problem was missed before/during assembly, or something is out-of whack.
list of somethings:
- driveshaft balance
- improper driveshaft length
- TC balance
- seriously f'ed u-joint
- bellhousing bolts loose
- TC not properly/fully seated into pump, bellhousing tightened against it
- ? trans internal
