Car: 87 IROC L98
Engine: 588 Alcohol BBC
Transmission: Powerglide
Axle/Gears: Ford 9"/31 spline spool/4.86
The 7.5 mini spool available is for 26 spline axles. They don't make one yet for 28 spline axles. As long as your 85 still has factory axles then the 26 spline mini spool will work.

I thought I read that mini-spool is only for dirt track use otherwise I would have already bought one. I'd really like to have a full spool for my '91 bird but I haven't been able to track one down.
Later,,, Matt

Drt Rcr, All Im using it for is so I can get traction at the strip next weekend. After that the car will be put away for winter. Just loookin for cheap traction.

They only say a mini-spool is for dirt track because having a locked diff on pavement is hard on tires and axles. For drag racing a mini-spool will work but still puts a lot of stress on the crosspin.

A full spool isn't available from anyone for the 10 bolt 7.5 diff. It's just too small a dif for true performance. Even though there are many 10 bolts out there, the manufactures don't feel it's a strong enough market to produce a 7.5 full spool. The closest thing you'll be able to get is a 26 spline mini-spool or upgrade to 28 splines and have the spider gears stainless welded properly. Welding isn't approved by the NHRA but I know many cars that have had welded gears for many years. 4x4's will usually weld the gears in the front diffs. They abuse the trucks more than we do the cars and the diffs survive.
