My Bad Luck! No Reverse, Lost Drive after 1 mintute.. all after rebuild! 700r4
Rebuild my own transmission but it was me and 3 other guys and everything was watched (700r4 rebuild video) and read while doing the rebuild and transgo shift kit. Upgrades are Corvette Servo, Boost valve (.500), TransGo ReProgramming Kit and master rebuild kit. I'm did the Manual/Auto kit.
The problem: No Reverse, Takes few minutes of reving to get Drive to start grabbing. Now it doesn't grab at all. did some searches... checked TV cable, Fluid is little over full (1" on dip stick), I did cycle threw the grears like someone told me to do after the rebuild. I checked and double checked everything during the rebuild. Checked condition of all parts instide the tranny. Checked my shifter linkage (B&M quicksilver ratchet. All setup right. Please if anyone can help it would be awesome. About to rip my hair out with the prodject...Thanks!

did you fill the converter with ATF before you installed it?

I had a problem once with a TH700R4 very similar to yours. What mine turned out to be was the filter had come away from the transmission body. The filter always sits in the fluid but the entry point for the filter feeding the pump is just below the normal operating fluid level. So long as it is level, it will work, but hit a hill, the fluid falls away from the pump entry point, starts to suck air and then you lose pressure to your clutches and they start to slip then eventually, no grabbing what so ever. They have trouble trying to get fluid pumping again hence reving the engine to get the pump working again.
Did you fill the convert as per //<86TA>\\ question?
Also make sure that it is has not been overfilled. Overfilling can cause foaming of the fluid and it also becomes ineffective. Much like air in a brake line. Air can be compressed and it won't provide pressure the auto's clutches.
If it persists, do NOT attempt to drive it. You'll wear the clutches down in no time and will need to rebuild the box again. My box only lasted about 6 months before it needed to be rebuilt.
Hope this helps you.
Cheers,
Col.

ya fluid is over filled about 1-2 "s on the dipstick. I was compensating for the TQ. I didn't fill the torque converter all the way but I did at about 2 quarts to it. I'll check the filter but I'm pretty sure I pushed it up in there good.

An overfilled tranny can be a bad thing too.
When you drop the pan to check the filter, try to get the fluid level correct.
Hope you didn't spend all that time & $, only to rebuild it wrong, and hafta pay to have it redone by a shop.

Dropped the pan and I find the boost valve assemble laying in there and I can't find the snap ring. I almost 100% sure I put the snap ring in there because thats what holds the thing in. The filter may have sucked the snap ring up. Would not haveing a boost vavle damage the transmission if I tried putting it in gear. What would cause it to blow out (if it did).

Found the snap ring in the filter! Can the pump blow this completely out?? or did I just have the snap ring in wrong or not enough on one side?

IIRC if you put it all back in correctly it stops with about an 1/8th inch between it and the snap ring. Sounds like you might have had in in backwards or missed the groove.if you didnt have it in good, pump presure pushed it out, and then you had a serious pressure bleed.A friend of mine tried his hand at doing the same mods and his car wouldnt take a gear, we pulled the pan and found the valve body bolts all loose.LOL he got the rest of it right, but appearantly took a break before he finished and forgot where he stopped.
try it again, verify you have it in correctly, reinstall clip, and try it again.
hope this helps

"Do it once, check it twice"
Not bad advice that.
I hope that once you get that clip back in that's all good for you. Hopefully without too much other damage.
Cheers,
Col.
