Stock governor?

Ok everyone, I'll try and make this my last transmission question. I finally was able to replace my governor with a new replacement. I found that the one that was in the car didn't have any inner weights compared to the new one (sorry, I'm not too knowledgeable with transmissions). The one I put in had some pretty heavy weights. So, instead of a 5500 (500 rpm too late) shift, I now have a 3750 shift. It also shifts so soon while around town that it feels like it's bogging badly.

Does anyone know how much the stock weights weighed? I'm going to purchase a recalibration kit, but all I want is a close to stock redline and around town feel. I'm trying to stay as close to 4500-5000 as possible. Does anyone know? Thanks.

Edit: I should mention that I have a 3.23 rear.

Re: Stock governor?

Post a picture of the governor you took out that shifted 500 rpm to high. I will tell you where to go from here on this. Dana

Re: Stock governor?

Thank you so much for your help, Dana. Here's a picture of it, I hope it was what you were looking for. If you need more, just let me know. Did they come stock with different colored springs, or did someone try and get more rpms from a motor that starts to die after around 4K ? Thank you again,
Dan

Re: Stock governor?

This is a stock Corvette governor with stock governor springs. This is a hi-rpm governor with apx. 5,500 - 6,000 rpm WOT shifts, depending on what valve body it was used with. If you want to bring it down 500 rpm or more, try the standard V-8 governor. This will get you to about 4,800 - 5,200rpm WOT shifts. It will have the inner weights with a welded weight on it and it will measure .155" - .165" in thickness. The governor pictured here has the thin pointed inner weights, which were used on Corvettes and Z-28's. The Z-28 had a different outer weight which looked liked it was hollowed out, no round hole. If you need the V-8 governor, let me know?

Re: Stock governor?

Thanks for the help! I already bought the weights a couple days back (before I got your post), so I guess I'll try and use them first, being I spent $50 on them after shipping. I should be able to adjust this governor to do what I need it to do with the B&M weights, right? I could also use the new replacement that is weighted to heavy.

With this governor it use to shift perfectly around town, but late at wot. My understanding is that the springs mainly affect your around town, while the weights affect your wot shifts. Is this true? If that's so, couldn't I leave the stock springs in the old one and just put heavier weights in it? Thank you so much for your help, and if this doesn't work out, I'll probably buy one from you.

I wonder if this transmission has been replaced...

Re: Stock governor?

Reuse the same springs and use the inner weights that measure apx. .155" - .165". This should give you what you want here.
