700 R4 question
At 75 mph should your rpm be topped out in 4th gear? I had the transmission rebuilt, not sure. I mean it will do 80 etc.but it's pushin it.
And it will stay high rpm the whole time?
Is there a way to turn the over drive off?
Ive read that turning the overdrive off, allows the car to lower its gear.
It stayed 4.9k RPM the whole time on a 8 hour trip. It has always driven like this , it seems fine. I was just wondering if thats normal?
I'm the same age as the car so I'm not sure if this is how it was back then or not.

Going by a seat-of-the-pants guess, at 80 MPH the engine RPM should be in the low 2 K RPM range. That is if the stock rear gears and not a higher ratio gear set is in place.
Note that overdrive is another gear in the transmission. To 'turn off' overdrive move the shifter from the OD position to the D position.
Torque converter clutch (TCC) lockup is different then overdrive. Can unlock the TCC by slightly depressing the brake pedal. At cruising speeds the tach should bump up a bit as the torque converter is now slipping.

man for all we know maybe someone swapped in a 6.50 gear for the dirt track. Does this thing have a roll cage by chance?
