How do I bore out my 3.1 Throttle Body?
Hey, I have a 3.1 Throttle Body from my old 3.1 engine. I would like to bore it out and install it on my 2.8.
My question is this, how do I bore out the throttle body (Don't Laugh) Are there any tech articles anywhere that explain the process?
Thanks, Firebirdjoe

Too much money, I want to do this myself so I can learn. And if I make a mistake I can always get another throttle body from the junk yard or ebay...
would it really work?
i mean, if youre opening up the t/b, then that slows down the velocity of the air your taking in (if its too big)
will it have any positive gains on what you have? i noticed in your sig you didnt have any mods listed, so i'm just wondering if you think itll be worth it on a stock motor

in all reality, you could port before or after the actual blade, but that will not do much for performance.
A good porting of the actual mounting flange on the upper intake then match and blend to the back side of the TB will yield some, as the increase MIGHT increase velocity going through the TB.

Thus, the 2.8TB is very small, and limits airflow alot. Thus boring out the TB (or gettting a bigger one) will allow more air into the engine makeing more power.
i know the point is to let more air in, hence, more power
i'm just saying, is the current t/b size really limiting the power it can make?
i'm not too familiar with the size of the 2.8 t/b, so i'm wondering if it really would make a difference, because if it becomes too big then it slows down the velocity of the air, like i said before. it lets more in but it also slows the amount of air coming in if it is too big of a t/b for the engine. and since the 2.8 isnt really a power hog when its stock, i figured the t/b is fine.

The first step would be to see if you could make a bigger "throtle" plate. Then you bore it as far as it will go and then get a new plate to fill the bigger hole.

Thanks for the help, I have an extra 3.1 t/b lying around that I was going to mess with. I will post my results later this week...

I don't know if that can be done pecisely by hand. That type of pecision work should be done on a press- your butterfly plate needs to seat exactly.
