It's pretty straightforward... remove the cam, knock out all the old bearings and drive the new ones in with the installer.

Cam bearings are usually only replaced during a full rebuild, due to needing the engine out of the car and on a an engine stand, to remove and install the cam bearings.

The manual that Jensen linked to is the best manual (I have both).
You'd need something like http://www.summitracing.com/parts/CCA-5312/ . If you're just installing the cam, your current 22-year-old bearings should be fine because camshafts aren't high-load parts; the bearings don't wear out (unless the engine had no oil).
When the engine's out and you're doing new pistons/bore/hone/etc, when you install new bearings, make sure the oil feed holes line up; otherwise you'll ruin the bearings and the cam.
As was said before, cam bearings are usually replaced during the machine work on the engine, especially because the shop already has the tool.

22 years is nothing in a cam bearing's life, if there's no scratches or embedded debris.
The other reason they're done while the engine is at the machine shop is because the hot tank solution would dissolve the soft metals in the bearing and they'd need to be replaced afterwards anyway.

On average, the cam bearings do not get changed unless they are beat up or have copper showing. To replace them, you need the special install tool and you have to make sure you line up the oil holes right or you will burn that engine up in no time. They also must be driven in straight. I would just have a shop do it. It does not cost much and you know there will be no problems.
