200c to t350 trans swap???

My 83' 2.8 v6 camaro has a 200c trans, and its slipping.
I have a turbo 350 trans, will it bolt up to the motor? Will it fit under the car with that big *** cross member going the length of the tranny?

Re: 200c to t350 trans swap???

I can't say for sure for third gens, but I did this swap in my first car, 1980 Buick century. Make sure the t350 has the bell housing for the Chevy motor, since they had 2 separate kinds of bell housing. One for Chevy motors, one for Buick, Pontiac, and Oldsmobile motors. I can't remember what the difference is, but it's shaped differently. Also is the t350 from a v6 or v8? Not sure of those are different but it's definitely possible. Hopefully someone else can also chime in on this. That being said, the swap in the Buick was a direct swap. It also has to be a short tail t350 or the tail shaft housing from the 200c won't fit on it. You need that because it has the mounting point for the trans that is specific to 3rd gens.

Yes you could use a th350. Here is a link below of a th350 swap. But it was on my car which had a 700r4 not a 200c.

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/v6/7...h350-swap.html

The 60 degree v6 you have will not allow a th350 to be directly mounted up. Read down in the link for the adapter plate that is sold by speedway motors. Also IIRC i believe the cross memeber for a 200c is actually the same as a th350 so you probly can skip any steps in moving the trans mounts arround like i did. But all thirdgens had tq arms so you would have to make provisions for that and mount it. But I gotta be honest im more familiar with the 200r-4 so when it comes to lengths and dimetions it could be different then what im thinking, but regardless you will need a adapter plate to make a V8 trans fit your V 6 60* engine.

OK so I bought a used t350 trans with a shift kit installed for $300.
Now I'm reading that it has to be the one with the short tailshaft. How do I know if mine is a short or long tailshaft, how many inches? The guy I bought it from said it was in a Jap car with a LS or 350 swap in it or something, they swapped it for a 6 speed manual.

If your 200c is the same as all the 700r4 thridgen then you need a 9 inch tail shaft to reuse the stock driveshaft. But look up a 200c and see the length and compare it to the 350 and 700r4 you might need a 6 inch or a 9.. I cant say for sure without digging up some info.

IF the 350 trans I bought is the longer tail shaft, can I still use it? Of course with a shortened drive shaft

Re: 200c to t350 trans swap???

Longer as in the 9 inch? yes. it all comes down to the trans tail end when we are talking driveshaft length. SO if you have even a 12 inch tail end which is the longest th350 one... it would work but you would need a even shorter driveshaft. I have a 9 inch are used my stock driveshaft. Worked perfect.

Did the t350 give you more power on the low end or the high end?

And would I use the 200 or the t350 torque converter?
Will the yolks be the same?
