Best Street Drag Radials
Hey all, I am currently running MT SS drag radials 255/16, I have run the Toyo Proxes TQ 275/16 previously.... not sure what to run next?
MT review: good launch for a mildly modded car, best of 1.755 60' time. they also launch well on the street but you can really feel the flex in the sidewall even with 30-32 psi around corners and at speed
Toyo TQ review: good street tire, less flex, better handling but not as good launch as the smaller MT drag radial.
the hard thing is there are not many options in the 16" wheel size, maybe some day I order the hawks GTA wheels, these cars do not ride soft so I am a little afraid of having a shorter sidewall...

- Are there any other good options out there?
- How are the Toyo road race tires? do they bite on launch?

Re: Best Street Drag Radials
I'm not sure you can get any stickier rubber for a street drag radial than the Mickey. Sounds like what you need is different tire size that will hook better.
Hoosier has a drag radial that works well but it's not for street. Well, none of them are for street frankly, but the Hoosier sidewall is way too thin and delicate for the hazards of the street.
Also, these soft rubber racing tires get murdered on the street and lose traction fast. Maybe you're just experience loss of performance with street miles?

30 psi is pretty high pressure by the way. I used to drive my Mickeys at 22 psi on the street. Anything higher and I wasn't getting full tire contact to the ground, as indicated by the wear pattern on the tread. That was a 275/40-17 on 17x9 rims.

M&H has a 275/55/16 that is 28 inches tall that I was going to buy and try, but haven't yet.

Re: Best Street Drag Radials
I thought the Nitto NT05R was a joke compared to Mickey Thompson ET Street S/S in a low profile tire. I spun the Nittos to 80+ mph on the street and the Mickey's could hold 100% throttle part way through 1st gear. They all get slippery with some miles though.
My experience with M&H is it has decent traction but not as good as MT tire. M&H uses a harder rubber that lasts longer though. Bottom line is that softer rubber grips better and there's not much way around that.

I have the M&H in a 275/60/15, no complaints from me and lots of good online reviews

MT ET Street SS tires here,
Not terrible on the street, but I am not corner carving with them. Great at the dragstrip.

I only run them at 30 for highway rides, cruising locally 24ish, 18 at the track

MT are excellent (best IMO). I've had them before. I now have the Nitto555R and they are pretty good. Both need good heat to stick. If you store your vehicle, make sure you follow MT's direction for storage. I did not and they warped so bad, I could not drive the car in the spring.
