305 heads = overheating, spark knock, and poor flow. Cheap vortecs are a good budget build for heads, or there is always the older heads and the aftermarket. I know around here I can get vortecs off...

If the heater lines are cooler then the radiator hoses, then bypass the diverter valve. If the lines are still cooler then it's the heater core.

Stock 4-bolts tend to crack where the extra bolts go into the main..... the weakest and thinnest part. A 2-bolt has held for me a number of times all the way to almost 600 hp, but it isn't to safe...

That's the power range for that cam. To raise the power range, you will need a stiffer cam. Your heads will support the power as long as you have enough compression.

Just use parts of the original harness to hook up all the gauges, dizzy, starter, and a/c. All the connections should fit and the gauges should read right.... you should even be able to use the stock...

The casting code will show what the block was to begin with. To find out if it's a 383 you have to measure the stroke. Drop the pan, and see if it's 3.48 or 3.75 inchhes.

They are dual pattern. I like the Q-jet and the Holleys. I think you made a good choice that is matched to the engine. Most people always want to go bigger then they need.

It can affect warm-up to a minor degree, but not starting. If your choke is adjusted and the carb is tuned you should be good. I've never ran all the emissions..... I have always felt it is a waste...

If it's a stock engine the Edelbrock 2101 would be a better choice. The EGR is for emissions, which you obviously ain't to worried about if you removed the TBI. The exhaust crossover is not necessary...

This may sound stupid. Since the vortec is already a roller, wouldn't it be easier and cheaper to just get a cam ground for it, that allows use of the front cover? Or maybe adapting the vortec peices...

If it is around the adapter, just replace the o-ring. I don't remember if it is another o-ring inside along the shaft of the gear.

For a 305: TFS heads worked over 305 vortec heads (don't remember the casting number), GMPP or Edelbrock...

A larger cam bleeds off cylinder pressure, allowing you to run more compression. Check your plugs, and try premium with octane boost.... I bet if you do both it will run a lot better.
