Why High oil pressure any suggestions?

Well i have a 1986 trans am tpi, car sat from october till now. and i live in northeast PA where the winter months are cold. Started the car occasionally like 3 times threw out the winter i didnt look at the oil pressure then. The oil pressure was fine when i stoped driving it, now its in the high 40s 50s and some times goes past 60. any suggestions on what cause this?? im thinking clogged oil galeries from the cold and sitting

No it could be that its cold and oil is thicker when its cold have u tried and let it warm up at engine temp and check. It should drop back down. Mine since i live in ks runs lil over 60lbs when its cold when its normal temp it runs around mid 30s

Re: Why High oil pressure any suggestions?

Try changing your oil first as sitting is still bad on oil. Also is it that high after the car warms up or when you first start it?

Re: Why High oil pressure any suggestions?

I would try changing the oil still. Just from my experience the oil will go bad from sitting especially if its a lower grade oil like Pennzoil. just my

I agree. Oil change first, if that dosent fix it, change the sender. They are pretty cheap and not hard to replace.

Re: Why High oil pressure any suggestions?

I am having the same problem. I bought my car after sitting in a garage for 14 years. When the car is cold or warm it runs at 60 psi. It drops to 30 psi when I stop at a light. I have been through several oil changes so i do not believe its bad oil. Some people are saying to replace the sending unit? I dont know much about cars and i dont see it in my Hayes book. Is that the silver canister looking thing above the oil filter?

I think he's talking about the oil cooler.
