Re: GM HIGH TECH is looking for YOU!!
there is a buick in most of the issues I'd say. I've seen a handful of CTS-V and G8 articles. There is an LT1 project car that belongs to the editor. By far the coverage is LS F-body 4th and 5th gen, but thats who support their sponsors most I'm sure.

Re: GM HIGH TECH is looking for YOU!!
After reading how they blew up that green 95' Formula when they hit the bottle and blamed it on the ECM calling it "archaic" because they didn't pull any timing I knew I was done with GMHTP. So I emailed the editor about that very article stating if I can run low 10's and a possible high 9's with a factory 730 ECM then your article is crap! And I know some of you on this board read that same article in which I laughed my butt off. It just seems that majority of everyone believes the only way to go faster is if you have the hottest and most up to date technology in the auto industry like the LSX series. By all means don't get me wrong you cannot stop the advancement of technology, but still if your going to write an article about something please write about the facts because if someone was really trying to learn something from that article it was what not to do when using nitrous.

Which I have no qualms with really. 95% of their advertising dollars are meant for that crowd, so that's what most of their content will be. Just sucks that is one of the only mainstream venues for a thirdgen bird.

Re: GM HIGH TECH is looking for YOU!!
I UNDERSTAND what your saying and it's funny you say that because the editor said those same words. But with all the time spent building a car to run in the 11's on a budget and not have a plan to tune it properly was crazy. The point I'm trying to make is, with any engine combination from mild to wild you still need to take into consideration how your going to control it. IMO it should have been included into their main focus platform. Just my 2 cents bro.
Re: GM HIGH TECH is looking for YOU!!

Certainly a little late, but I dont care. I love 3rd gen maro's and bird's..period.
Mine's a 1990 IROC-Z with a 305 that is currently undergoing a swap to a 350... (I dont know enough about the original setups of the camaro yet cuz i've only had the car for a couple months and already done a bunch of cosmetic work but i wanna learn more about the 350 before i try to upgrade to a LS model.. and when i do it'll probably be an LS6/T56 swap) but either way all i've done so far-
-Big block hood
-GT steering wheel
-black housing projector headlights (which are very dim btw, any hints for better brightness would be amazing)
-chrome billet grille
-Z28 high rise spoiler
-paint job
anywayz i have nothing but the utmost respect for Anyone who maintains their 3rd gen camaro/firebird. These are American Muscle and a significant part of our automotive history and should be treated as such. That's why i love this site!

Re: GM HIGH TECH is looking for YOU!!
One of the cable news shows asked users to send pics of their Klunkers when the Cash For Clunkers was in effect, because for car lovers, it was a very hard experience to have to witness. I missed out on this being away so long, but my original 1998 pictures of my 89 Firebird still exist, from 35mm prints! Not digital film though they were scanned and transferred. My 1989 convertible TPI is in a bad way, even now, I need a new Cat-back exhaust and lost my job in the recession, having also depleted any program funding from unemployment, I thought to pop in here and ask if anyone is up to SAVING MY RIDE?!? I have no tools or skills, or money to do so. I even hoped maybe Jay Leno might be interested. I got an actual call about him declining the offer!

Shawn,
Love the pics of your 91' awesome ride. When did you have it repainted and the black? It's not factory is it? Looks really deep and shines way better than most I've seen.

Re: GM HIGH TECH is looking for YOU!!
Here's the three that are even close to being ready for a magazine.
The 88 GTA: relatively stock. The suspension has been redone due to age. The stereo has been replaced for better sound. And the engine now has AFR heads. Soon it will get a Miniram and a bigger cam for better power. The most striking feature is the bird ghosted into the paint of the hood. And the C&C t-tops that pop up like a sunroof and come out like t-tops.

The IROC: 3 inch catback, updated stereo, and a glass rear window top. Otherwise it's a 70k mile survivor.

The 92: the sheet metal is still original.
The drivetrain is a complete replacement. Forged 355, AFR 195 heads, HSR, Procharger F1A with cog drive, FMIC, custom Ron Davis Racing radiator, Accel DFI Gen VII ECM, caged, 12 bolt, built transmission, cowl hood (still needs paint)

I'd be proud to show off any or all of them if you want.

Re: GM HIGH TECH is looking for YOU!!
I have 2 sets of them. They are hinged at the front and pop up like a sunroof (individually) if you don't want to stop while driving to take them out completely. These are the only 2 sets of them I have ever seen that do this.
They even surprised my neighbor who has been working on these cars since they were new and had never seen a set like this before.

Basically, yes, you just push up on them. You'll know immediately if you look at them. There are hinges on the front edge and a handle to push up on the back side. Not all C&C TTops do this. Most just lift in and out like the factory ttops do.

Re: GM HIGH TECH is looking for YOU!!
My thoughts exactly. I have the only 2 sets any of the local 3rd gen guys have ever seen. 1 set came with the car when we purchased it and the other came off a RS Camaro that was being parted out after a wreck.
I don't think there are any pictures anywhere of them popped up. I'll see if I can take some this weekend and post them. They do a pretty good job of venting hot air out of the car in the summer though after its been parked for a while.

Re: GM HIGH TECH is looking for YOU!!
Ian, nice pic of your ride. You should add the LS engine and transmission swap to your sig or atleast mention it again.
I can vouch for the awesomeness of Ians car and that he drives it every day, usually with the top down, wind, rain or snow.
It would make a great feature car.

Thanks man! Ironically enough I just got back from a cruise down to Gig Harbor with the top down. Got lots of looks driving down I5 with like 3 coats on enjoying the 33* air. I just rolled over 210k on the way. Member
