C5 Z06 Corvette Calipers Installation

I was reading where all calipers bleeder screw should be at the top of the caliper, but My installation of the C5 rotors are at the bottom. Is the C5 an exception to this policy on majority of rotor bleeder screw at the top?

Re: C5 Z06 Corvette Calipers Installation

I have no experience with the C-5's, but I find it difficult to believe the bleeder would be down (how could it ever be bled correctly?). Is the caliper on the correct side? Also, the line looks very short or is it bunched up above?

JamesC is correct. I have the same setup on my 89. Yours appear to be on the wrong side. As for the flex lines, those appear too short as already mentioned, the stock 3rd gen lines or braided 3rd gen replacements will work.

if you switch sides, check that your steering stops don't hit the calipers at full lock. mine did, so i left them upside down.

just twisted them around and set them on the front of the rotors, bleed them out like normal and then fliped them back around and bolted them up.

worked for me, and no fabbing up of a way to clear the stop.

Re: C5 Z06 Corvette Calipers Installation

yes its up for a reason. its for bleeding the air out of the calipers because air rises. after that, you tighten it. and don't open it again till you bleed the brakes again. at that point it does not matter if its up or down. but hey, if you want to mount them the other way. have fun with the steering stop crushing the caliper trying to park. or worse if you ever have to counter steer into a slide full lock and it locks of the front brake. there's no saving the spin then.

yes, but its a waste of time and effort when bleeding them and mounting them the with the bleeder down fits right and you don't need to take a grinder to your car or weld up any bs

it just works. remember the K.I.S.S method

why?

the only reason i can think of is if someone else works on your car and can't figured out why bleeding the brakes doesn't work. but if your doing a brake upgrade yourself, i'm sure you won't be taking your car to just brakes for new pads.

Re: C5 Z06 Corvette Calipers Installation

I understand your point (Post #6) but should the bleeder screw leak by, air will accumulate at the top of the piston bore with the brake line if mounted as you describe. Likely? Probably not with new calipers but things can happen.

We've discussed the mounting before:

As for the steering stop, easy fixes here:
