How will this sound...

I have pretty much decided that I am going with the eD 10kx sub and a JBl Powervalve 300.1. The sub will probably be in about a .5 cu ft enclosure.

Compared to 2 12" Polk 165 wrms and a Jensen amp pushing them at 85w rms in an enclosure that took the entire well (not just the bottom part) with no baffles.

What do you think, will my new set up have better SQ?, SPL?, both?, neither?

i think the new setup will have better SPL and SQ...because although you're downgrading your cone area, you're buying a better quality sub and its properly powered.

I'm not to knowledgeable in the porting department. What would be involved in porting the box? Just a bigger box with a certain sized hole in it?, Baffles? what.

well first you would have to check in with ED to make sure that sub will work well in a ported box. Then they will suggest the best box for it.

this is the box ED recommends for that sub

im not sure i agree with the design of it...the port takes up way too much of the box. But thats the manufacturer designed enclosure so they would probably have more experience with it than i do

Yeah. I knew about that box, but I really don't want to use that much room. If the spl is even close to the same loudness I'll be happy, so I think a sealed box will work well for me
