Built a vinyl set of kicks

I just finished building a set of kicks that I wrapped in vinyl. This was certainly a new experience for me. I've worked with vinyl a lot of times, but never on something with the complex shapes and tight curves of my kick panels. It wound up being necessary to cut and piece the vinyl around the back side of the kicks. Fortunately, that's all hidden when they're installed.

Attached are pics of both kicks at angles similar to what will show when installed, and one is a "backstage" pic of where I had to seam it under the tweeter pod.

I personally like the carpet better too, but if I had an interior with the vinyl door panels and non-carpeted factory kicks, I think the vinyl would look more appropriate.

nice job Jim! I was going to vinyl over my carpeted kicks to give it a "padded" vinyl texture, but I decided not to. Regardless, they look good!

Vinyl right over carpet would be a disaster. It wouldn't stick, and you'd never get the look you're going for. Unless it's on a flat surface, vinyl has to go over a hard material.

I've done it a few times and had good results, but not on a complex shape. Give it a shot on a scrap piece of MDF you've got laying around. It's pretty cool.

On flat surfaces, I've done it over foam many times. It does give an interesting appearance, and if you don't have the abilities to flush-mount your stuff, this helps give a similar look.

Jim if you're still selling these kicks I'm in the market. If you could get back to me I'd appreciate it. My email is barspin89@adelphia.net.

Thanks
Andy

Holy **** *L* that looks awesome.

Jim, one advice, as to how to fix the area where one can see the cuts, in case you ever feel like doing some more and want to avoid it.

Get a vinyl repair kit, in this case, the black paste, put it on, and heat it/press it with the pattern supplied that will match the vinyl you're using.
