Hood clearance

Hood clearance
I'm trying to choose an intake for my car. I will be using Z28 style hood. I know a performer will work but I'm not sure about Performer RPM. My concern is what air cleaner will fit best if any With Holly double pumper carburetor. Thanks Frank

Re: Hood clearance
Sorry for the confusion...I just want to know if I can use an Edlebrock Performer RPM carb intake with a stock Z28 hood with an air cleaner without hitting.
Thanks Frank

Re: Hood clearance
I've used an RPM Airgap (IIRC part # 7501) and it fits with a drop base air cleaner. It barely clears a stock hood, I didn't need to, but I cut part of the inner metal away for clearance anyways. A Z28 hood may be different.
I actually have a spacer (IIRC, 1/2") on mine as well, I needed the room for one of the vacuum ports. There was an interference issue with the Holly DP and the position of the port.
I think this was it:

Edit: More info that might help is that I had new poly engine mounts, and the air cleaner lid that I used is raised a little. It's a standard 14” dia. x 3” high.
I have a Z28 hood on my V6 and after looking at it I'm a little apprehensive about it fitting actually. Most people are using that intake without issue so it may be possible squeeze it in with that intake if you were to minimize everything.
You should be able to use clay or something to leave an impression for where the air cleaner will meet up with the hood. Then you can look at that area of the hood to see if you can clearance it or not.

Oh really? I didn't know about the intake. I was able to use a 90° piece from the original intake which was actually lower profile. I'm thinking that his should work with that air cleaner.

Re: Hood clearance
Since my original Q-Jet had a fitting on the back of the carb itself, I didn't have any stock one to use in the first place....but if you have one, and it works, use it!

Re: Hood clearance
My set up is: Vortec Eliminator high-rise single plane intake (I think it's taller than an edelbrock RPM air gap), a holley 750 dp carb, and a 14"x3" drop base air cleaner that has about a 1.25" drop.
Even with the drop base air cleaner, approximately half of the cleaner sticks up into my 2" cowl induction hood. (it's kindof awesome looking down the cowl from the driver's seat and seeing it but I digress).
My engine is under my name, it's a gm 350
