Large red wire, any ideas?

I have a 1989 iroc and there is a large gauge red wire that runs from my battery with an inline fuse, through the firewall, under the carpet and passengers side door sill, through the interior trim and exits into the cargo compartment by the spare tire. It's not connected to anything,my question is.is this a factory wire and if so what does it go to, or something someone added? I have seen other cars with a simillar wire.

Re: Large red wire, any ideas?

sounds like a wire for an aftermarket stereo. i would pull the inline fuse then remove the wire and parts completely.

Re: Large red wire, any ideas?

I dont have that on my 89, sounds like somethign someone added.

How large of a gauge wire is it? could be an old relocated rear battery line if its a 0-2 gauge wire, but i dont think it would have a fuse inline

maybe an old audio/stereo line?

edit: yep, as above mentioned beat me to it

It's probably a power wire for an amp.
