frustrated over an oil dipstick tube

I did a 350 swap to carb. The block that I got is a driverside dipstick. I read on some board that there is an internal dipstick "guide" bought it from Chevy went to put new upper tube some Mr gasket chrome thing for blocks up to 77 don't fit. So my question is does anyone know how to install internal dipstick guide and what actually fits this thing in regards to dipstick tubes. Any help appriciated thanx

Re: frustrated over an oil dipstick tube

I bought the chrome Mr Gasket dipstick when I did my motor build in the late 90s. The chrome was so thick that it didn't fit. I had to file the crap out of it and it still isn't in all the way.

The internal one can be gently tapped down into the block until it stops.

This one goes in from the top of the block first and the external one goes into it right? Or does it go in from the bottom which means I need to take the oil pan off?

The internal guide you tap gently down from the top unless there is all ready one in there. If there is on in there then just install the external one. The internal one is down in there quite a ways I don't know if you can see it.

Re: frustrated over an oil dipstick tube

So there is a ridge to stop the internal one from going into the pan?

Re: frustrated over an oil dipstick tube

Yes there is a ridge to stop it from going to far. What it helps with is giving you a nice clean line on your dip stick. Makes it a lot easier to read. Sorry took so long to get back to you just got off work.
