92 RS sidepipes?
I have a 1992 25th anne rs, motor swap to a 2 bolt main 350. Other few minor things here and there. Ive come to a point where its bout time for me to do my exhaust, i currently have some hooker shorties coming in. My current issue is that I want to put side pipes on my car. However the shops that ive gone to have all told me that i would have no ground clearance to do it. Some have suggested raising the rear end a little bit using bigger tires and higher stiff suspension. Any suggestions?

Re: 92 RS sidepipes?
Side pipes are barely possible with FX, but you will reduce your ground clearance, quite a bit. Pulling the FX will certainly help.

Re: 92 RS sidepipes?
Do you mean sidepipes like in the pic above, or a side exit infront of the rear tire(turnout)?? There is a HUGE difference. If you say sidepipe to an exhaust guy he will think Corvette/AC Cobra. Which
not only looks like crap on a 3rd gen streeter------it'll leave a hell of a scar on yer leg if you're not careful
If you want a turnout then thats what you need to tell the muffler shop.

Re: 92 RS sidepipes?
I went to a shop 2 days ago asking if they could do exactly that and they said I couldn't have the side exit on the driver's side due to the huge beam going down the middle of the car--which pisses me off because I already have a set of 4th gen Z28 tips that would look brilliant right infront of the rear tire. Is there an aftermarket beam that's shorter without losing any strength? I REALLY want the side exit...my only other option is putting them in the middle in the rear. Kind of like this:

But using the Z28 rectangle tips and sitting right under the rear bumper--see attached pic on where I want them as an alternate to side exits.. Which means I may have to cut a bit of the "trunk" area. I also want to drop my car 1" in the front and 2" in the rear...which means I might have to be REAL careful about going over dips and speed bumps/humps if I have any exhaust piping hanging.

Re: 92 RS sidepipes?
"the beam" do you mean the touq-arm
Yes there are many aftermarket options, I don't know where you all live but in Tx the law is the exaust has to exit past the passanger cabin. In a car thats all the was out the back over the axel, in a truck its just past the cab. Just something to look into or keep in mind. Its because the fumes will make you pass out, and any way you look at it you will have clearance issues, if not with the tip, the pipe itself.

Re: 92 RS sidepipes?
The cops may not care, but come inspection time, the inspector SHOULD fail you with exhaust that doesn't exit the rear. Probably won't though.
On that 4th gen with the center tips, the exhaust is still routed like our, it just has a different muffler & tips in the back. That could easily done to a 3rd gen.

that exhaust shop is not up to par.... my car has true duals that could easily be converted to side exit. the ground clearance is low but i dont clip anything yet, the hooker 2210 longtubes go to 2.5" pipes that goes under the x-member. Its not really all that complicated

Re: 92 RS sidepipes?
Spintech sells boom tubes. Its not a mufflered exhaust piece but it will sure be loud and sound freakin good. I would get the y-pipe with those shorties and then buy a chambered muffler from classicchambered.com or stainless, along with a boom tube from Spintech. Depending on what sound your looking for.. This set up with give you close to that gmmg sound. I thought about this setup and really looked into it. I ended up going with shorties, QTP E-cutout, and a magnaflow cat back. I love the sound of my magnaflow. Look into what i suggested. It shouldnt be too pricy. Good Luck!
